Just wondering if a bigger screen size is really worth it. Isn't the difference in what you see on the screen just holding it slightly closer to your face?

I know there are other factors such as battery life. Let's remove that as part of the consideration. I also know that sometimes, there are potential varying features like in iPhone 12 Pro vs Pro Max, but that's not as much of a factor in 13 Pro vs Pro Max right?

Same reason I prefer to use my iPad over my iPhone when consuming media. More screen real estate offers a better experience IMO. This is a main reason why I would upgrade my X to a ProMax.

There is more shown on a larger screen... Whether it's worth it or not is a different story. As someone who downgraded from an 11 Pro Max to a 13 Pro.. I don't miss the extra visual real estate. I do miss the larger battery though but not enough to switch a 13 Pro Max.

Yes, with that big of a difference, I do agree. But with iPhone sizes, its a fraction of an inch, so it seems like a different situation. Let me know if I'm wrong.

Yeah that's what I am considering too.

To me, it totally depends on the scenario, what you do with your phone, and how you do those things. There is also trade offs for convenience and portability versus productivity.

In general, I much rather have the larger device if I am sitting down and have two hands on it, but for most of the things I do on the phone, having a larger screen doesn't matter as much. Mix that with the fact that most of the time I cannot have two hands on my phone, and I am one handing it, I prefer to go with a smaller phone.

I use my iPad for times I am able to use two hands, but it isn't as convenience or portable as carrying around my iPhone.

If I am able to sit down at a desk, I much rather use a Mac than both an iPad and iPhone, but again, not as convenience or portable.

For productivity (work, entertainment, etc.), it goes Desktop Mac>Portable Mac>iPad>iPhone for me.
For convenience and portability, it foes iPhone>iPad>Portable Mac>Desktop Mac.

Bottomline, it all depends on you, what you plan on doing with your iPhone, and what you are willing to give up for a particular iPhone size.

It depends on how you use the phone. Something happened to me along the way and that something was the Samsung Galaxy Note 4. It fundamentally changed how I use a phone. I thought a phone was a phone with the Droid and the Galaxy S3, but the larger screen turned into a mini tablet for me. A further thing happened to the industry along the way and that was the switch to proportionally narrower and taller displays. So now, if you want anything close to the width of a Note 4 screen -- helpful for some photo and video content -- you really have to get the Pro Max and not bend over too abruptly with the thing in your pocket. Yep; as a phone the iPhone mini or at most the iPhone 13/13 Pro is better. But it isn't just a phone anymore.

If I carried a cell-enabled tablet it would be different. Definitely the mini would look very attractive.

I’ve got an iPhone 8 and 8 Plus. Both are identical in every way except screen, screen size and camera.

I just purchased the iPhone 8+ recently because I really don’t like dealing with the screen on the 8. I love the 8+. The 8? Meh.
Size does matter- to me.

You've asked a question which has an highly subjective answer. You're basically asking for opinions which are neither right or wrong.

Here's my opinion.
  • Like BugeyesSTI, I consume content more that watch movies. So extra length on the screen helps on web pages, emails and long text threads.
  • I rarely watch movies so 16:9 aspect ratio is a non issue to me.
  • I have bigger hands and aging eyes so the width of the screen is important for easier readability and ease of typing.
  • I rarely use my device one handed.
  • For me, narrower devices are much more difficult to use because of my big hands.
  • Max size devices fit fine in my loose-fitting jeans and coat pockets.
Bottom line is you have to make that decision based on your preferences and needs, In your opinion, the larger screen may, in fact, not be worth it and that's all good. Keep in mind though that others will have different opinions. Again your question has no wright or wrong answer. It's just what right for you that counts.

I went from an X to 13 Pro Max. Sure, more space for content is a big deal to me, but the biggest difference for me is the keyboard.

Before my X, I had a 6+. When I upgraded, I began to have cramps and make a lot more typing mistakes. This is because of the thinner screen and more compact keyboard. The Pro Max gives me a much wider keyboard that spreads things out, removes most of the cramping and I am making less typing mistakes. That’s a real benefit to me that outweighs everything else.
