Everyone is different so why can't you accept the fact there are millions who don't care for a retina display?

i was rebutting your initial statement of sarcasm that the retina was not the biggest flaw of the mini

i don't judge what people like, but the biggest flaw is not as subjective an answer as you make it to be

the common flaw that all pro-reviewers have stated on their online reviews are common, the lack of retina display

they also find it an acceptable but not optimal screen, whereas some find it less than optimal

so, I submit that if you polled a million people, the most glaring flaw of the mini will still be screen quality

cool story:

The biggest flaw I see in the new ipad mini is the TIME IT TAKES TO DRAIN THE BATTERY! I'm trying to calibrate it but it's not getting drained fast enough:

I know I have the same problem, I feel like I have to watch a movie all day and all night to get down to low battery. We live a rough life.

Good thing we got the mini so we can use the iPad all day instead of the retina model. I'm sure those retina screens look good the 6 hours they run for. I'll take my 12 hour battery on my mini anyday!

Why do you insist on justifying anything? Dude, I don't need to pull up any poll results for you- go on the front page of macrumors and search for millions of ipad mini's sold.

I don't' care about pro-reviewers. I care about my own self and I put my money where my mouth is. In another thread I started, I stated I walked in for an iPad 4, but walked out with an ipad mini. It's not like I didn't have money for an ipad 4, it's because I chose an ipad mini OVER the retina ipad 4.

To me, it's what I tend to use the most. Well then, how come I don't use my iPhone 5 the most? Well before this new mini was released or even the ipad was released, I used my iphone for the sole purpose of making calls and texting. I surfed on it alot but it was too small. Then the ipad came along and changed it all. But even that wasn't as mobile and convenient I should say as the iPhone!

Bottom line is so what if pro-reviewers say it's inferior. I know it's inferior but I don't care because holding it further away (which I could not do with any iPad 9.7"), the screen looks good enough!

your post = non sequitur

if you polled everyone that owns an ipad mini, they would say that the biggest flaw is the lack of retina display

end of story

will they still enjoy the mini? of course. it's a very good product.

what is the biggest flaw?

lack of retina

Its biggest flaw is the 163 PPI screen :apple:

That's even bad by Android standards

There are so many Android "standards" how ever could you choose just one?

Stop trolling.

Well, I own the mini and I think the biggest flaw is that it seems to be disgustingly attached to a bunch of negative nellies and trolls who like to run around forums devoted to fans of the mini in order to declare they know why someone was stupid enough to buy a mini.

The Nexus 7 has 216 PPI whereas the iPad mini has 163 PPI

who's trolling whom?

do you even know what trolling is?

If google came out with a 163 PPI tablet, all of the apple fanatics would be making fun of its awful screen. but they easily forgive the mini's craptastic screen

I will not say this device is an "entry level" product! There is no entry level to anything apple based on pricing. I would consider this ipad mini a completely different segment. Because it uses the same components as an iPad 2, it still is in a different class. It's the right size for those that dont' want a bigger phone/tablet.

who's trolling? Dude, the thread is to showcase how good the device is. It's anything but until you came along and pee'd all over it.

Eh... an entry level Porche is still an entry level Porche. Apple products are just more like the high end of the tech industry. Even if Hyundai made a car as fast as the slowest Porche, the Porche would cost more. Thus goes for the iPad.

Entry level (to me) doesn't mean crap. It just means it's the lowest point of entry into a product line, which is exactly what the iPad Mini is.

The iPod Shuffle would be the entry level product in the iPod line and even without a screen it does/looks better than it's closest competition (Sandisk Clip+)

BTW, I do know what trolling is, and I know a troll when I see one. Trolls don't appear on Mac fan forums joyfully discussing (or having to defend) their love of everything Mac. Obviously, you think it's the opposite.

Also, if you didn't realise, the Nexus 7 is *not* the only Android device out there - I asked you which standard these devices adhere to, and you listed one of 1000s, and expect me to understand which standard you're referring to?

Stop trolling.

Dude, i'm happily posting from a macbook

i should've said nexus standards, my bad

what i hate the most is when apple fans make fun of other products for being inferior but ignore it when apple does the same

See and that's the difference, at 163PPI it's not craptastic. It's your constant attack on the screen that is considered "trolling".
Craptastic is the 140 dollar Android tablet's screen that has 96ppi and no IPS that's sold at Big Lots)
It's a capable screen that isn't the best and as I stated... who puts a more premium part in an entry level device than their top model? (326ppi screen is needed for the iPad mini is a much better screen than the 264ppi on the iPad 3/4)

Fair enough, much appreciated, and while I didn't with this purchase go with an Android device (they were in the running for one reason: display) I don't fault people who do buy them, I applaud them because I think everyone has their own criteria regarding purchases, so no one's decision is ever wrong, no matter how much I personally may disagree with the decision *as it relates to me*.

For me the screen with the mini, while not ideal, is actually quite a clever thing that Apple has done. I used to own a gen 1 iPad and sold it awhile ago, and bought a mini (launch day). So, I had all these apps sitting here doing nothing (though I'd paid for many of them), and while I considered an Android device (either Kindle Fire HD or B&N Nook HD) I went with the mini because I was so impressed with: 1) the form factor and 2) all those apps I'd bought worked flawlessly on the product from day one.

My main criteria, however, was whether a device this small could display PDFs (my programme at school is all about PDFs) - I've got a Kindle, but of course as lovely as it is, it is crap at displaying PDFs. While I previously owned a full sized iPad and I wanted something closer to the size of my wonderful Kindle. The mini is that product and more. I can't believe how impressed I am with it, despite its not having a retina screen (which it couldn't - not 6 months post full sized iPad retina screen launch having same thinness and battery life as mini does). The display is actually I think excellent. I've seen the retina displays and they are superior, that is indisputable, but the screen on the mini is far from what some are saying on here. I love this device, the size, the weight - it feels so perfect in my hands, I think they've done a great job with this device.

While I know there are other devices out there that have higher resolutions, and while at the same time I want the mini to sport those dimensions (or greater), for today, this device is neither inferior nor superior, it merely fits (or for me exceeds) my criteria for a device, and the screen is just something I look forward in the future to seeing improved.

I read scripts on PDF using Goodreader all the time. Never had an issue. The mini is fantastic for what it is. People just need to realize that it's NOT the top dog Apple Tablet. At this price point I would expect it to always be 1 generation behind spec-wise.

And it most certainly is behind.

I think Apple is also restricted by one of their best known advantages: battery life. You lock people into the expectation of 8-10 hours (or more) and you can't really go backwards, at least signifigantly. If a higher res. panel is going to ramp up energy use, I suppose you start dipping into R&D and/or improved manufacturing processes.

But, ah...I just hate that screen.

It's 1 generation behind as far as a screen is concerned. It's ppi is the 3rd highest ppi of any apple portable idevice.

Higher than that of any of the non retina macbooks. It is perfectly usable as is and completely unreasonable for them to put a 326ppi screen on it right now. If they do do it in the future expect a price hike.

All android stuff biggest flaw is not running constently the UI at 60 fps.

Depends.

For LTE, camera / facetime, it's current generation hardware.

Moreover for hardware polish, they are one generation in advance of the iPad with the same level of quality and thinness than the iPhone 5.

Edit: Never mind, couldn't be bothered adding fuel to this fire

On day 2 of my 64GB mini - and after playing some GOF2, arc squadron, and some he-man, all that plus surfing the web with flip board, using safari and mercury browser, I'm only down to 95% after a full complete calibration charge.

Insane. Long Battery Life.

Love it. Mini Forever!

Battery life is great! Definitely the best Entry level device apple makes for someone who doesn't care so much about viewing quality

as they said in the Apple promo video for the Retina display - "With the iPad, the display is everything" --> well if that's the case, why throw in a horrendous screen. looking at the iPad Mini feels like i am looking at the craptrocious screen of a Lenovo X120e

call me spoiled b/c of Retina, fine. but once you go Retina you honestly can't go back. my old iPad 2 looks like a Gameboy Color in comparison

ok fine, so they don't have to go all the way out with Retina. there is plenty of room for something better that adds negligible cost

Why do y'all defend such poor quality when even the iPod touch and Nexus 7 screens are immensely better?

Apple did this for typically cynical reasons. Not because of any technological barrier.

Immensely better your ass! I have both and that is just absolute BS! If you look at numbers only then YES, but in actual use is just not so....

Just open the Camera and start filming. It will usually drain the battery quite. fast. Put bluetooth and wifi on as well.

You can buy a ipad 3.1 at any retailer across the United States. It's almost impossible to pick up a mini right now. The mini is amazing and everyone knows it.
