Here(-ish)
For those considering the purchase of an iPad Mini (air/nano/et al), what is your biggest reason for getting one?

For me, it would be 2 things. First, it is smaller/lighter and therefore more portable. Second, it would be less expensive.

At $300 I'd pass, though I might similarly consider getting the 3G/lte model of the mini iPad. It will really depend on the specs the device officers. My 3rd gen iPad is nice but not as portable as I'd like, and my decision to go with Verizon has been mostly good.

Remote control for my theater room. Lights, fan, AC, speakers, receiver, projector, Mac Mini, etc...all controlled by an iPad Mini.

Size, weight, portability.

According to those priorities, the new iPad being thicker and heavier than the iPad2 was actually step backward.

The Mini would be perfect for commuter on public transit - easy and light to whip out and hold in one hand.

Maybe we should wait to see the product first?

Or at least, can we agree on a few assumptions on the product so we can have a discussion?

Because depending on the price and specs it might change a lot of how we perceive it.

1) If it has a retina display and has the same specs (or better) as the iPad 3 it will be exactly the iPad 3 just smaller. I expect it to be more than 300$ in that case. It will be just as "cutting edge" as the ipad 3, just smaller, it will be another "flagship" model for apple and it will be better/more expensive than it's competition.

2) If it doesn't have a retina display, and it has the specs of an iPad 2, I will perceive it more as... "iPad Lite". The cheap/smaller iPad. It would have to be priced pretty aggressively in that case (200$ or less) to be interesting.

The iPad mini seems a lot like a reaction to the Nexus 7 and I'm still not sure which route Apple will take. (1) The more expensive but clearly better or the (2) similar specs and similar price so it boils down more to a iOS vs Android thing.

At a price of 299$ or less, I'd consider buying a 7,85" iPad.
The main reason for buying an iPad mini, thus, would be the price.

I still, however, wouldn't be completely sure of which one to buy.

Personally, I see no reason to invest because there is an iPad mini already out called the iPod Touch :)

I'm just happy with my current iPad

The biggest reason to "invest" in an iPad Mini is because you have approximately $300 you want to see depreciate 25% in one year, 50% in two, and 25% in three.

Semantics pemantics. You get the gist. I teach English all day long; give me a break on here.

Better than almost any other "return" on consumer electronics, though.

I've seen in the news someone is selling their Apple I for $120,000-$150,000. It might have depreciated a lot in the first several years, but overall that's a gain of about 15% per year. Not bad.

Duhh. So I can get all those darn kid games off mine, and she can have her own..... :)

I see a no-brainer xmas present for a 5 year old in my future.
