For me it is because of portability. The iPad is awesome but it is just a tad bit to big to take everywhere. The iPad Mini I think would be the perfect size.

IF they run $199 I'll be buying one as a second iPad for the house as the wife tends to lessen my time with the current one. I have also found the 7" size to be rather handy for reading and holding one handed. I've been messing with a Nexus 7 for a while now and it's very, very light yet the screen size is nice for most everything I do on the larger 9.7" screen. Not to mention at $199 I know a few people in my family that would be getting a nice xmas gift this year as well.

Haven't had a chance to mess with a Nexus 7 but if the iPad mini were the width (in portrait mode) similar to a kindle touch, I'd definitely bite. The kindle is so light and fun to hold. Certainly the electronics + screen will prob be a weight add-on...

Not a chance of seeing $199

Look at the iPod touch and the iPad 3. It will be priced in the middle, and not likely to start at 8g, bit 16g

$299 maybe, $349 more likely for 16g wifi

People said the same thing about the sub-$1000 price point before the original iPad. I think $249 is my official stance.

For me the biggest factor would be its existence. I would be hard pressed to spend any amount of money on a yet to be announced imaginary tablet. ^^

Since i bought the Nexus 7 i really didn't use my ipad 3 until today... I just can't stand the big ass size of the ipad... It really gets heavy when you hold it for a long period of time, and there's no comfortable way to hold it. Ipad mini would solve all that!

My two main reasons for wanting one are the price point (of course, being a broke college kid, this is attractive to me :p) and the portability. I've been bringing my laptop to lectures which is okay, but it might be nice to have something a little bit lighter to carry around. Also if it has a retina display, that is a huge plus for me.

Less is more!

As several others have said, number one reason would be size/portability.

If you already have a slim laptop (such as an MBA), it would be a bit silly to then carry around a full-sized iPad too in that you would lose some of the benefits of having the lightweight MBA. For those of us who might need the functionality of a laptop, the best complement (this is my opinion) would be a smaller footprint iPad, or larger sized iPod Touch (they are essentially the same in my mind, I don't care what you call it).

Price is secondary for me - this isn't a product I would buy based on price.

I have an ipad3 but recently bought a google nexus7 because of the portibility power and price. It does everything my ipad does. Ipad stays at home too heavy to carry and the nexus rides shotgun and so will the mini ( as long as it has 2 cameras which the nexus doesnt.)

If apple charged more than $250 i'd just stay with my nexus. It does everything my ipad does

For me price point isn't an option, not because I'm very well and ave no cares about money, but because Apple do not make cheap products, it won't be cheaper then an iPod touch for example.

Size is a big feature, but this is obvious as it is a fundamental difference, and if you buy a smaller iPad it'll be because it is smaller in size.

But what will stop you buying one, is a more important question? For me it has to have retina, 32GB and 3G. If it as that I'll get one to replace my iPad 2. Battery life will need to be comparable as well..... So that'll be a 7" iPad 3, cheaper but no other compromise....... Hmmm, I think something as to give, wonder what'll it be.
