I tried to get an idea reading around but it's not easy to decide
Thanks for all the input you could give me

At this point, Big Sur and Monterey are equally stable and receive the same security updates. Unless you want some Monterey exclusive features, you can stay a little longer on Big Sur. When it stops receiving updates, you should consider moving to Monterey.

I updated from Catalina to Monterey (never touched Big Sur) in November without any difficulties. No real pros or cons, other than some apps dropping support for older OS versions. Monterey has been solid for me. ymmv etc.

ventura isn't even an entirely new install like it is from big sur to monterey, i went ventura from monterey on my imac 2017 thinking it would delete my desktop folders items so i saved them, only to find out that they were still there afterwards. it's more like monterey part II. once ventura installed i had issues double clicking, every double click turned into a quadruple click everytime. i also didn't like the way the preference panel looked. i reverted back to monterey and all went back to normal, so much so that even my 10 year old noticed the difference.

A week ago I decided to go ahead: smooth and fast installation, 1 hour!
But it took the whole week to tune it the way I wanted and now it works pretty the same as Big Sur plus some automated tasks I added in the meantime.
Is there a way to change name of files a little faster without the need of hitting return ? Till big Sur it was fast, now it takes ages to highlight any file
