Haha this is just gunna be even worse than Vista!! hahaa

Any guesses as to it's proper name??

Vish*ta.....? Vista Take #2.....? Visterd.....? Revista....?

lol

Networking sucks donky balls with Vista. My new Vista laptop still can NOT see the other XP laptop in my house even though it's on the same router, with the same subnet id. The only major thing they did to Vista that I can see is the new Aero interface with 256 pixel icons. Whooop tee freakin dooooo.

You're telling me! My niece got a Gateway notebook with Vista and it's been extremely problematic, and Vista just runs you around in circles. SP1 seems to have fixed most of the problems though, but when it is connected to the same network as my iMac or MacBook, they don't see it on the network.

When I last spoke with someone who knows, they said it would be called Vienna.

Vienna??? Wtf? thats a bit of a crappy name!!
So more or less crappy than Vista :)

Update: I see Vienna was actually the pervious code name before the changed it to Windows 7. They obviously agree with you

That's the new Vista Networking security feature. It's called "Network Ninja". :D

My folks have a new Toshiba Laptop with Vista that I get to help them with. It's not so bad, and is very pretty. Function wise though, I don't see any improvement over XP, it's still unintuitive and cumbersome. In fact, other than the eye candy, Vista is pretty much just XP with all the controls relocated, IMO.

Essentially, Windows 7 build 6519--dating back to December 2007--is just a slightly enhanced version of Windows Vista

Want to see some screenshots.

While I can't stand the guy he does often have lots of screenshots and follows the development of window so worth checking from time to time. I believe he has a mac as well and often does (biased) comparisons between the two but it is good to know what others think. But it can be intolerable to some.

I don't find XP any better than Vista.

Hell, I can't even run XP without getting the Generic Host Services crash, or my network going out after 30 minutes of usage.

Vista runs flawlessly, and very fast.

It amuses me how we just got Leopard yet hardly anyone is asking "what's next?"

Meanwhile, in Windows world, the first new OS in an aeon has been released and all the hot gossip is about how soon it might be replaced.

I think I'll probably be one of the folk who sticks with XP until Windows 7 comes out. I mean, in terms of recent Windows releases it's a pretty short wait.

How can Microsoft announce about New Windows while they still have so many issues and things to improve in Vista??
Maybe they have decided that it is easy to start with clean sheet and create something new instead of correcting and improving Vista...

Don't be surprised if that happens. That's exactly what they did with Windows ME, and they actually came out with a half decent product.(Windows XP) Maybe that'll happen this time.

I imagine this is their business model. Come out with a really crappy version of Windows that seems good at first with more eye candy and "features" :)rolleyes:) but is discovered to really suck. Some people buy it, most don't. Then, they release a slightly better version, which is hailed by critics as the best Windows ever, and over half the population buys it.

It looks like it's been working for them for about 13-14 years...

I'm not a big fan of vista but have running via bootcamp. For the vista machine to see the xp machine over a network you must download a file on the xp machine. Can't remember what its called. Only after u install the file will the vista machine see it on the network.

I for one am quite looking forward to the new windows, from Reading in between the lines, they have completely rebuilt from scratch, how true this I don't know? Maybe I'm being naive but I think if microsoft take in consideration the recent 10 years of history with Linux and Mac OS and what there users want, they maybe might actually get this version right? I mean, they're not crap at what they do. They've just made mistakes. Every big company does??? and windows has never been bad, its just not what power enthusiasts would rush for...

Yeah, whatever that means...
When you copy a file using windows, it usually tells you how much time remaining, and it's usually underestimated. So "next year" means take 2009 and add quite a few months to that.

Sad but true. I'm hoping to skip Vista and see what Windows 7 has in store.
I'm waiting for XP SP3 now, I've got Vista SP0 (is there such thing lol) on my MacBook and the rest of the house's computer. I totally do not like Vista's indexing service, prefetch and whatever else - especially when you compare them to OSX that doesn't seem to tamper with the performance...

Someone told me that 7 will be like an add-on to Vista such that you will need Vista for Windows 7. Has anyone heard of that?
You're ready for an expansion pack eh?
