Whats the iMac for though???
First of all..the is my first post on these forums. After reading the site for a year or so i finally decided to post..lol
Just wondering what its (the iMac) for? Is he running a soft synth through it, other effects or other audio programs such as Reaktor or Max/MSP??? Were there any visuals going on in the show?? If so it may be Jitter running on the iMac.
Also on the Pumpkins...i thought the main reason for the break-up was the fact that the band had been together for quite a long time, there were beginning to be creative differences in the band (d'arcy leaving, the James wanting to go solo, Jimmy and his various problems), and they just kept pushing themselves into a corner with their music, that being a corner that only allowed two ways out...one being keep the band together and change the image totally or break-up.
Personally Adore and Machina were good, but different...very different. Even Machina, if we can call it a return to the pre-Adore "rock" that the band was known for, was somewhat lack luster, and it was a lot more pretentious than other Corgan-fueled rock. That said I was dissapointed by Zwan; it was a little to, well "nice" for me. It just didnt connect to who I am like the Pumpkins did, and if the single off of Billy's new album is any indication of the rest of the album I will not be buying it. Billy is best when he is rocking, pissed and screaming his lungs out, followed by a sudden change to sweet, soft, etc. If you have seen the Pumpkins live you will know what I am saying (that or listen to a live recording of Silverf*ck or Soma). Those drastic changes in emotion/music/lyrics are the heart of the Pumpkins music. Having seen over 50 live Pumpkins shows, it still hurts that they are gone, but I do believe that Billy has lost some of his anger (or whatever you want to call it) that infused so much of the Pumpkins music with raw emotion that is virtually unseen in "pop" music today...
If ya havent seen em live, check out their DVD's...Vieuphoria and the Greatest Hits Collection (which has some live video as well)
That said...Machina II: FAEOMM is great..and i highly recommend listening to "If there is a God" (piano and vox version)
{edit}----
On a closer look at that pic, it kind of looks like he is running Max/MSP..but it would be helpful to know what the guy near the computer (the guy behind Billy) was playing. With all the MIDI controllers in that pic, and the dig. drum set, Max/MSP would make a lot of sense, especally to make large scale changes (say changing drum sounds/keyboard sounds/effects loaded into play) when changing from song-to-song. Just an idea.....
