A century after construction… :D
Sure, why not?

Even then, what if the plates are moving in another direction, like rubbing against each other in opposite directions, adding that extra length wouldn't be all that much of a help then.

(But then again I do not know this area of science all that well.)
Think outside of the box.

All that would be needed is adjustment areas. These would allow for movement, expansion and contraction.

Just need giant pivots on each end.
That would be one long span! :)

I have visions of the Golden Gate bridge, when the wind starts a certain wave-length "aggitation".
A big oops.

The video is really amazing when you see it self destruct.

Ah yes. Good old Tacoma Narrows bridge, eh. :D
A good engineering lesson on how not to design a bridge. :)

Could this ironically become a terrorist target?
I think that would just be family fighting, or brotherly love, take your pick.

and I will gladly delete this post if anybody takes offense by it, I was not intending to offend anybody

Could this ironically become a terrorist target?
Very unlikely I would have thought. When you think of the usage this bridge could have for moving "items" between certain countries (e.g. Somalia and Yemen) I could imagine it would quickly become very useful for groups of all political persuasions to keep it operational.
