I'm in the process of upgrading a Power Mac G4 MDD to use as a primary machine ----- now in the PC world motherboard makers will continue to tweak a boards BIOS for several months or a year or more often adding or improving features. What the process for Apple machines ?? Are there ever updates offered ? Do they happen in the background ??

How do I know my boards firmware is up-to-date ?

Updates have been pushed using Software Update. You'd be able to see your current firmware version in System Profiler.
