50 bucks for a funny 3G data plan - yes, sure. 10 bucks more for a good game ,that will give you hours of fun, than on Steam - outrageous. Well all seems in order in this world ...

Played them on PC and they where fun, great graphics. I liked the story behind them which was actually interesting. Don't know bout 360 but on ps3 but for FPS console to me are not very good or fun. I find racing and side scrawling games to be great on console.

To bad console have become the norm and graphics have taken a dive in so many game franchise just to allow console to compete with desktops. Oh well $$ is what matters in the end.

No gamer in their right mind would play (competitively) a FPS on a console, and that's because you're forced to use a slow-as-molasses joystick to control your aim instead of a mouse.

Sweet... the reason for the higher price is Apple's 30% cut... if BS2 on Steam is $20, then they're making about $21 on this version on the Mac App Store. That aside... you can actually play this game (afaik) on as many Macs as you own, at once...

There are 4 Macs in my household. When I purchase an app I can install it on all 4 systems. Does steam work the same way or would I have to purchase the game 4 times?

Thanks for reminding me that. This is a huge strength of the Mac App store. On Steam you can install it on multiple systems but only one machine can play the game at any given time because of your account.

Through the Mac App store, you don't go through the hassle of logging in to your Apple ID Everytime you want to launch the game and any person in your household can play the game at any time, any place. You install it and then forget it.

Definitely adds value to the Mac App store version:D

I have to yet to finish the first Bioshock on my Mac, but I might buy this in the future. It´s good to see more Mac Games coming our way.

The Mac App Store is in a way better than Steam, because unlike Valve, Apple does not allow other protections on top of the Store DRM.

In the case of Bioshock 2 this means no Windows Live Crap or Securom. This is good and respectful for the customer who pays his hard earned money for this games. Protections on most major Windows Games are disrespectful these days.

I hate the fact that because these porting companies exist, native publishers don't publish mac version themselves... if they do that they will release the games on steam and we all can save lots of money.

Because of this, we are buying a stripped version so often at such ripoff price and that is a game 2 years old. I don't know how these companies remain sustainable at all with this strategy, who wants to buy it?

If you realise how much ripoff you are getting, with simple maths you realise you save 100s of £/$ if you just get a Windows 7 disc for £70 and buy games from Windows Steam store.

The Bioshock games are amazing. I've done both on console but I might check out the second one on Mac. I'm looking forward to the new one which is out soon too!

Why do we have to wait 2 years still!?!?!?!?!

Arrggghhh!!!!!!!!!

Stop the whining and buy a Windows license and/or a console. Problem solved. Nobody cares for an operating system with less than 10% market share. End of story.

Disappointing that ATI HD2xxx series are unsupported. To anyone who has an iMac 7,1 or an ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro 256 MB and bought the game, does the game launch at all? If so, how is the performance? It's not a bad GPU compared to the intel 3000 and the nVidia 320m. This game has a strange requirement cut off point. :(

I think Bioshock one had better gameplay but Bioshock 2 was by no means bad, it explored the applications of Objectivism by taking the situation of the philosophy vs it's antithesis. It shows a part of the city which fell under the agenda of moral altruism and then goes on to explore the negative effects of it but also the flaws of Objectivism at the same time.

The plot is a lot more intricate to a player who is familiar with the philosophy that it's based on.

Can they both play online at the same time too?

I don't already have a cheaper version from Steam.

I don't run Windows.

I don't game on a "vasty superior Windows box".

Hmmmm, odd that I mistakenly thought we were on macrumors forums, talking about a Mac version of a game.

Weird.

I have already proposed to our dear MR editors that a SPECIFIC subforum be created for those geniuses playing Windows games on a Mac, whether through virtualization, emulation or boot camp.

Case in point: you see people talking about Steam-bought Bioshock 2 - does it exist for Mac ON STEAM? NO!

This is a MAC forum, and ONLY Mac-native/ported games should be discussed in the games section. Do you wanna talk about gaming on Consoles, Amiga, Windows, Atari ST or whatever? Just use a subforum for that.

I am tired of being confused when someone announces "Great whatever game" just to see that it's for Windows.

Except for those who own and enjoy that OS garnering only 10% market share, which is why we're on this forum.

Who woulda thunk?

This is a Mac forum, not an OSX forum. Apple released this neat new tool called boot camp that lets you run Windows natively on a Mac! That means that I can actually play Windows games on my Mac hardware. It's still Mac gaming.

It's NOT Mac gaming if you are running Windows on it, period. A Mac running Windows is simply a Windows PC.

If you want to discuss Windows games, you should go to Windows SuperSite or the like - there are plenty of alternatives for Windows gamers out there already...leave us with MR and a handful of others to discuss Mac-native gaming.

Bless.....

So you are not aware that the forum section for gaming on MacRumors is entitled

MAC AND PC GAMES
computer-based games

Untitled.jpg

Added to the additional forum sections available

WINDOWS ON THE MAC
Boot Camp and Windows discussion

So if you are really anti PC gaming then maybe it's actually you who needs to find a new home for that discussion, because Fanboy nonsense doesn't generally go down very well on MacRumors and as a user who has been here since 2005 you should know that and know better.

Just so we're on the same page, what you're saying is that the pictured computer, purchased directly from Apple, is in fact NOT a Mac. Seems like a rock solid argument to me.

You know Valve take a 30% cut of Steam sales too?

Not if you don't want to pay for 2 OS's.

Sheesh, what am I? Made of money?

You'll save more in the long run by buying a copy of XP. Trust me. Not to mention, this will eventually make its way to Steamplay, so I'll have it for both OS X and Windows then. Not to mention, if you're so strapped for cash, Macs are probably not the sort of computer you should be buying.
