No there is no way you can take a machine you purchased 10.2008 back and pay the difference on a new 17" model. Unfortunately you will have to deal with the issue of the keys not working and then sell the 15" to finance the 17" or help that is.

Aside from that, honestly Apple doesn't seem to care about your history as a "loyal" customer. No offense but it never seems to really work all that much. You're a customer and you deserve to have your 15" fixed under warranty, nothing more.

I doubt it man your best bet would be to just sell it on ebay or craigslist or something get about 1000 or 1200 for it flip that and get the 17

... do you guys think there is way that I can persuade apple to take this computer back and sell me a 17'' inch one and to pay the difference of about $300 buck (of the original price of my computer and the 17'')
Not a chance in hell! Make repairs under warranty, yes. Give you 100% of your original purchase price back? No way.

Regardless of what we say, it comes down to what Apple wants to do in your situation. It wouldn't hurt to ask Apple if you can go the desired route, but be prepared to hear "NO" then have a backup plan to get the repairs done and consider selling it on CL or eBay...

I would try going to a apple store and talking to manager and see what he/she can do, maybe they can do something, if they can't try to see if Apple customer relations will do anything, they have helped me in the past a lot, free wireless keyboard, $300 Applestore credit and mobile me for a year when I had issues with my iMac.

Harry, what problem did you have and how did you deal with them???

Thanks!

Well, mine was, keyboard issues, I had about 3 of them, and then also one superdrive issue, I was just talking to the applecare support person and he said you should try talking to apple customers relations to see if they can give you anything, so he patched me through to them, and thats what they gave me no questions, and the items arrived within 2 days. Very good service, also, my friend was in the same boat as you, but he had a previous gen mbp, he got 2 months before unibodies, and he talked to manager, and he had a genius inspect the machine, and said he could put the money from the old one into the new one. So it doesnt hurt to try.

well Ill be going to the Apple store today... any more thoughts on what should I do?

I can't find that. Do I look in user/wife/mum/sister/aunt?

lol, but you know its so true. My old 15" Unibody had a broken 9600 card, which was Apples fault. I went in, Genius said it was water damage, even though i had only been in some heavy fog a week before, so i sent my GF in, she got me a new free 17" Unibody, yes i had to wait a month for it to be delivered, but i was a happy bunny :)
