i've read countless posts over the months talking about how dreadful it is to scroll through a window or webpage in osx and that resizing windows is a horrendous affair. on my 500mhz imac g3, it certainly is (under 10.1). i've played around a little bitt on the flatscreen imac that is on display in my campus bookstore, but today i decided to see how "dreadful" the scrolling and resizing of webpages was. keep in mind that this machine is using 10.1.5 (they are too lazy to get any copies of 10.2) and the only browser they have installed is IE (slow and a waste of space) so we arent even seeing the advantages of quartz extreme. what is a horrendous task on my g3 was not all that bad on a 700mhz g4 and was pretty much the same redraw speed as my sister's 1ghz pIII (she bought the computer with a flatscreen and speakers and it set her back about $1500, very close to the price of an imac, and hers does not even have a dvd drive). on a powermac with 10.2 this must be vastly improved, which makes me wonder why all of this critizism is floating about. true, i'm pissed that my machine does'nt have QE and is pretty slow, but the newer breed of machines seem to hold their own. (let the flaming begin)
