Hello. First-time poster, and fairly new to Mac too. No, I'm never going back :apple: Anyway, on to my problem.

I installed the Abbyfine Reader OCR program and when I did it changed the "Applications" icon on the dock to its own icon. I looked through posts on how to change it back and when I tried the recommended method (Finder--Get Info--Select icon--CMD-X) it didn't work. So I deleted the Applications folder from the dock and then did a drag-and-drop from Finder to re-add it. Now the icon for the folder (on the dock) is the Address Book icon, with the AOL 'yellow man' icon behind it!! What the...?

Does anyone have any idea what's going on?

What you're seeing is not actually the folder icon but the folder's contents. Right click on the stack and select "Display as: Folder"

Yup, your "Display As" setting is set to "contents" instead of folder.

If it's set to folder then it displays an image of... the folder it's in. If it's set to CONTENTS then it shows all the stuff inside the folder stacked on top of each other.

your issue here COULD be that it was set on Contents that whole time... but you were just used to seeing Address Book (or whatever application was first in alphabetical order) on top of the "stack".

But now you installed a Abbyfine Reader, an application that's alphabetically at the top of the list, so now that's the top icon being displayed in the "stack"

Eureka!

Thanks Mac People. You're so much nicer than PC types :)
