I read that the black sides get rubbed off but I also see all these new black iphone pics that the back looks completely smudged and full of prints even on the metal....will that be be an issue?

I chose black, I have a white 4s and sometimes pictures get hazy

Those pictures still have the protective plastic....so yes, they are smudgy. You aren't gonna see smudges on aluminum....unless you tilt it in the sun just right of course

You "read" that the black sides get rubbed off? Where did you "read" this. And the picture of the smudged back you saw was on a phone that had the packing film on it.

Pocket-lint says that the black sides got worn out and you could see the shiny aluminium.

That doesn't surprise me as the HTC One S also has anodised aluminium and it scratches really easy even though its not meant to.
