Black boot screen?

Hi, a friend of mine just got his first Mac, a Mac Mini. I also thought the boot screen was white with an Apple logo (don't own a mac yet , trying to save up for one though!). Is this not the case on the Mac Mini or in Yosemite or something like that? All help is appreciated

On more recent Macs, the boot screen is black with a white Apple logo. I think they changed around 2011 or 2012 for most models.

My 2014 Mac Mini has the black boot screen with the white apple logo.

White screen with dark grey Apple on my 2012 Mini.

... and the exact opposite on my daughters (black screen/white apple) 2013 Air.
