I have a 14" iBook G4 (the last one) and it seems that a black border is forming around the display monitor of the laptop. I know monitors tend to form such a border over time but it seems too much for me for a laptop just over a year old. Are there any freeware to maximize the screen size?

When I take a screen capture, the black border does not appear. it looks perfectly normal.

No, this is only true of CRT monitors (tubes) when the image area shrinks over time. It is not true of LCD monitors.

it won't come out so clear with a digital camera..if anyone is familiar with this situation, do you know if I will need a display card replacement?

Actually, I notice a black ring around my macbook. It's most prominent at the top right/left corners, as the task bar is curved in those spots. But it's all around, probably no more than a millimetre, but noticeable if you look for it.

this is normal and has always been this way, the op is talking more of a growing black ring.

i don't believe my ring is growing, it's just a PC friend pointed it out to me and i don't like it at all. It's at least 1-2mm all around. there is no software to adjust the monitor geometry for the ibook?

If you are talking about the NORMAL 1-2mm black edge around the display picture on your iBook LCD... that is normal. That fact that you never noticed it until "a PC friend pointed it out" tells me that it is obviously not noticeable unless you are hunting for something to fuss about. That is no big deal. Why does it bother you so much now that you know it is there? And no, LCD displays do not work like CRTs and do not need geometry adjustments.
