Seems that B&H Video has some nice Black Friday discounts going on right now. The link I provided is for the iMacs.

I receive the EDU discount, thanks to where I work (teaching hospital), so the price difference between B&H and apple are very close. I guess for me, I like the instant gratification and may pick it up at apple as opposed to B&H but these deals are still good

The problem is Tax. For example, B&H is selling the high end 15" for $2250, no tax. From Apple, when the education discount is applied, the cost is $2300 but I'd still have to pay 8-9% in sales tax here in So Cal. Now price difference is $300 with the tax included.

I agree, and that's one reason why I'm leaning towards the order from apple :)

B&H is an excellent place to buy electronics, to a large extent because of their present tax treatment. But I wouldn't expect to see any significant bargains on the latest spec iMacs from there or anywhere else.

By the way, and slightly off topic, the only "real deal" I've seen (thanks to a timely tip from the MacRumors iPod forum) is from - of all places - Target. They have the latest 6th generation iPod Touch at 20% off with free shipping. They also had a one-day-only extra 10% off with a special discount code. I had been needing to replace my 5G Touch due to a weakening battery, so I jumped on this and got a 64 GB 6G Touch for $216 + tax. That will be the extent of my "Black Friday" shopping ;>)

Is Adorama ok to deal with? I'm ok with delays in delivery which is the main knock against them

I've purchased from Adorama in the past and all interactions have been great. I have no complaints with them.

When you file your state tax return you are supposed to pay the sales tax, well, use tax.

Just bought the 27" Retina with 8 GB and 1 TB SATA for $1,599 from B&H. Always done will with them, and living in NJ and saving 7% tax? Thanks.

Upgrading from my 21.5", 16 GB Late Early 2012 iMac...think I'll notice a difference??

Also ordered 16 GB of RAM from Amazon to bring up to 24 GB....looking forward to working from home more now with this big screen. This is worth the upgrade, right....RIGHT? (wife will be thrilled when this arrives)

I'm in the market for a new iMac myself. (Upgrading from my first ever Apple product - a Mid-2007, 24" iMac.) Money is tight, as usual, so I need the best deal I can get. B&H seems to be where I'm going to get it, if, for no other reason, than to save 7.25% sales tax. I can't find ANY information about any meager Black Friday sales that Apple is having this year.

I'm a cash on the barrelhead person. Don't believe in credit. The model I want from B&H would take all the cash I have saved and I'd still need $50. As nice as THIS ONE would be, I also don't care to go broke for a computer.

The next one I'm considering is THIS ONE. Still, that's most of my savings.

Since 90% of what I do online is watch videos and care only about speed, not storage, common sense tells me to go for THIS ONE, which is the same price as it is at Apple. But, then I'm saving $94 in taxes.

To be honest, an iPad would work for me but I absolutely don't want to get locked into a monthly data plan. I get 50Mbps internet at home for only $39.95 a month. The money I would save on an iPad would just get eaten up by monthly fees. And notebooks are apparently not a good buy right now, according to MacRumors Buying Guide. Besides, I'm concerned about them getting hot after hours of use.

Get a wi-fi only iPad. You can then use your existing connection for internet and piggy back on other connections where you can.

That's a great suggestion and I thought about that, too. I even tried it. By the time I bought what I needed to go with it (at the time, without sales) it wasn't much cheaper than getting a base model iMac. I don't like having to depend on WiFi and all that it entails, including piggybackers. I also didn't like the way the internet was formatted for iPads. In the end, especially since I'm not very technically inclined and like keeping things simple, it just became too involved and too frustrating so I returned everything. Just my own preference. I wouldn't mind trying out a notebook, but MacRumors Buying Guide says not to and I also hate how they get really hot after they've been in use for awhile.

Just get a lap pad for the notebook, problem solved.
True, but I was thinking that the high heat (because I use my computer for hours every day) would cause it to not last as long as a desktop. Then again, I'm not technologically inclined so that could be wrong, but it makes sense to me.

I used my mbp for years (2011) for hours at a time, with no problem. Almost never shut it off either.
