There are a number of blind tests that show what you are stating is incorrect.

What were you expecting then? When it comes to sound, the HomePod is top of the chain. It’s unfair to compare 2 Sonos’ speakers against one HomePod, as the stereo sound makes all the difference. In my honest opinion the HomePod is one of the best Apple products released this decade, alongside the AirPods.

Sorry if off topic but is the HomePod a better hub than the Apple tv for homekit? If I can get one for $199 I would totally snatch one up.
I could be wrong but the Apple TV 4K has the A10X fusion core processor, where as the Homepod has the A8 processor....so from that the Apple TV has the better cpu.

Also the Apple TV can be connected to your network via Ethernet, which could make it more reliable/stable connection within the network without having to worry about WiFi issues.

I'd say that it depends on the application. Acting simply as a hub, then yes, the Apple TV might have a slight advantage due to the reasons stated above. However, in day-to-day usage, one could argue that the Homepod is more practical because it's more accessible (Hey Siri) and more useful (always on, doesn't need a display, speakers, or remote).

I know this is off original topic, but this conversation took place on this thread so I am adding a bit more info to it....now that I have both devices in my house.

So I had the Apple TV 4K (connected via ethernet) as the only HomeKit hub in my house for a long time and worked 100% as it should, last week I got my 1st HomePod speaker and set it up with my iPhone and it became a "standby" HomeKit hub according to the home settings......still everything working 100% as it should in my house.

However, at some point over the last week, I dont know when or why.....but the HomePod is now showing as the MAIN HomeKit hub...I did not change this, it seems as though HomeKit is preferring to have the HomePod as the primary HomeKit hub in my house. (both devices are in the same room, so not sure if that factored in anything too?)

The most important thing for me though....is everything HomeKit related IS still working perfectly in my house.

There doesn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason to this. I have four ATV 4Ks and two HomePods all being used as Hubs. Two of my ATV’s are connected via ethernet, one to an Eero satellite node and the other direct to the main Eero router and for some reason, HomeKit keeps defaulting to an ATV in the corner of the house running on WiFi. Like you though, HomeKit is running as it should, except for terrible lag and accessories updating when I have too many apps running in the background and Safari is open (I’m attributing this to the Ram management issue of iOS13). iPhone runs hot while this is occurring but it clears out when I close the background apps.

It looks like today only there‘s a $10 Best Buy gift card included too.

Effectively $190 today. Not bad.

That was coincidentally the day I purchased two in a local BB. The salesperson didn't know about the gift. card promotion and was surprised when the cash register (why do we call them that now?) instructed him to give me two $10 cards.
