Just a quick question, really. I am planning on buying a 13.3" MBA Ultimate here in London on Black Friday. I gather that there will be some discounts on Macs although possibly not on MBAs. I'd like to pick some American brains because BF is essentially an unknown quantity in the UK.

The Apple UK site is essentially saying that there will be deals via the website and in the stores. What I'd like to know is: will there be better deals in the stores or will they essentially be the same as the website. I'd like to know because I don't particularly want to freeze my ass/arse off on Friday morning waiting for the store to open. I'd much rather arrive at my leisure at a sensible hour and stroll out with my MBA under my arm. Assuming, that is, that the machine is actually in stock. Otherwise, I'll just have to get online and order it there, hopefully with the same discount.

Any hints/tips you guys can give us regarding this most peculiar of US customs;)?

    Cheers,

    jahman

No one knows for sure, but typically Apple offers the same Black Friday deals online as they do in the store. They aren't the kind of company that puts 3 MacBook Pros on sale for a ridiculously low teaser price in order to attract a crowd at 5:00 AM.

Yep, that makes sense. I'd prefer to go to the store and pick my machine up but I suppose that'll depend on stock levels on the day. Hopefully, they'll anticipate higher sales and have extra stock in. We shall see;).

Do you not have a relative, friend, etc who is still in education? If you buy it in their name then you can get £120 off the basic 11.6", more if you go for upgraded options.

They do not even ask for proof initially, you pay £729, receive it in a couple of days, and they ask you to send in a letter from the educational institution, or a photo copy of their ID card. In fact I actually bought and paid for it in my name, just told the lassie that I was buying it for my daughter for Xmas, so I could have sent anything in.
