Not sure what's false there...

You claimed they're garbage and suggested people should not buy them so as to cure some an aspect you dislike.

$12Bn revenue for the product suggests your opinion is uncommon and that you're unlikely to convince anyone not to buy them.
I don't understand what you think you're saying. He says "people shouldn't buy them" and your response is "but people do buy them"? I think he gets that already.

It was stated quite clearly in the third sentence - but to restate it for your edification, the market dominance of AirPods suggests few people care about things such as the battery design; at least not enough to not buy them. Thus it is my opinion that he is unlikely to have any more impact than Don Quixote tilting at windmills.

You haven't clarified anything here. You've just repeated the same fatuous point: Him - "people should care about this." You - "yeah, well, they don't." What kind of response is that?

So you were lying when you said you didn't understand what I wrote? Noted.

If you think a comment is fatuous, just say so rather than hiding behind a lie.

Cheers.

I didn’t say I don’t understand what you said. I said I don’t understand what you think you’re saying. you’re acting as though you made some relevant contribution to the discussion, when all you did was address a completely different point, so I’d stand by my comment that I don’t really understand what you think you’re saying.

What it really comes down to is that people have to start changing their expectations of battery life in everything. You've got something with a battery the size of a flattened grain of rice, and weighs nothing, yet folks think they should last as long as a car battery. Will they last a couple years? For sure, but will they last 5? No. But neither will my running shorts which cost $40, or my running shoes that cost $120.

Sure, I’d agree with all this. I don’t even have a particular moral objection to AirPods, I own some and like them. But I’m willing to have the discussion.

I just don’t think “well lots of people buy them so what’s the point of talking about it” is an acceptable or even relevant response to someone bringing up valid concerns about the environmental impact of electronics that are pretty much literally designed to be binned after, as you say, less than five years. You can make arguments about how that impact is marginal compared to alternative, or about what Apple is doing to mitigate it, but you can’t just post sales figures and tell someone they’re tilting at windmills even trying to discuss it. That’s just shutting down debate. Imagine turning up at Cop26 with a bunch of graphs about how much coal gets burned worldwide and asking why they’re even bothering.

Just jumped on the Walmart $89 airpods. I had just bought these from Amazon for $115 (delivered two days ago).

Amazon had them on the website for $90, so I tried to get a price adjustment. In the 20 minutes I spent fumbling around to find a price adjustment link, they took down the sale price (maybe they sold out, who knows). Only 3rd party sellers at $150+ now.

The guy on the chat told me that Amazon is no longer doing price matches. I wonder if they would have price matched themselves if the $90 ones were still in stock???

When I get them from Walmart, I'm returning the Amazon ones.

Just wanted to rant a bit.

Bought Airpods 2nd gen from Amazon about a week ago for $115. Got delivered on Tuesday. Then I see this post and noticed that Amazon was also selling them $89, so I went for a price adjustment. Except Amazon no longer does price adjustments.

So no problem. I order from Walmart.com and get the $89 price. Except the order is now delayed for some reason. No idea why.

Today, I notice that my local Walmart has them in stock at the $89. So I figure I'll just buy them in the store, and cancel the Walmart.com order and request a refund from Amazon.

So here's my pain.

Amazon doesn't accept returns for Airpods. So I get on a chat and they claim that it's due to the Hazardous Materials clause in their return policy. https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=GMZNGRA9B5PCJB5F

The only thing hazardous in airpods would be the battery, but they accept returns for computers and Kindles within 30 days. Those things have way bigger batteries than airpods and the case.

SMH.

Anyways, it looks like I'm stuck with the $115 airpods from Amazon. I'll return the ones I bought from the store today. And if the ones I ordered from Walmart.com show up, I hope that I can return those as well.

Worst case would be that I get stuck with an extra pair of Airpods at $90.

OK, rant over.
