Regarding the above photo, I would suggest swapping the left-shift, and the right-shift key positions, to make the draughtsboard/chessboard theme more evenly distributed.

The iBook is rather easy to dismantle, however, the trackpad button and the trackpad assembly might be a right bloody pain to remove from the upper casing, if I remember this beastie's insides. You will want a plastic swap to separate the casing sections.

...At least the top, lol

I had some extra 12" G4 parts lying around, and decided to test priming and painting the back screen case with glossy black spray paint. Both primer and paint applied well, and I haven't really had any problems with scrapes or chips!

DAAM, saw your thread yesterday, you should definentaly do this to the rest of the iBook.

Why Apple went with white is beyond me, as all that it does is become easily dirty.

I really wish that Apple would give up on the white look, and try for something else. Some black, or cherry-red systems would look nice. At least the metal finish systems don't become filthy after a mere two weeks.
Blame Jony Ive.

Jobs didn't care for white on the first go around.

I actually prefer white or a "silver-y" look. I hate black, it's too generic.
Ohhhhh, soooo not me. Sorry, I'm the other way. Black was one of the reasons I went bonkers for my iPhone 5 Black/Slate and was so apathetic about the 5s when the closest Apple chose to get to black was "space gray." The 5c doesn't even come in black, which means to me that my black iPhone 3GS looks better than any 5c.

My OS is black, my browser is black, I style webpages in my browser black, I wear black, I prefer black. But, that's just me. Everyone likes their own thing and that's cool.

For phones and OSes it's different. I prefer black phones and black phone UIs which is one of the reasons why I like my 1020 so much. :D

That's takes me way back. I've dyed a few iBooks. This way scratches and scuffs will still be black and not have to worry about chips and such.

The G3s had a clear plastic casing that we're painted white on the inside. Some alcohol took the paint right off showing off all the guts if you left the heat shield off...

I thought sometime I might get some G3 cases just to do this! It looks pretty sick..

Well I just got done dying my G4 iBook 1.33 case plastics black and WOW I'm so impressed how much better black dyes then when I dyed my G3 iBook. It turned out so perfect and even and a dark rich black. It looks almost like a true blackbook, but only in a 12" 4x3 form.

I was doing this for Shont213 on this site so if he doesn't want it, I'm going to list it on ebay :D

I even dyed one of the battery covers too.

And now for the 14" Blackbook.

Pretty cool that I got a message from another member saying he got a bunch of iBook parts in a lot and supposedly the black iBook was part of that lot. I think it's cool it's still floating around out there and hadn't ended up in a landfill.

IT WAS DESTROYED??????
That makes me want to cry....

long winding round trip.

I asked him for pictures. I'd like to see how well it has held up over the years.

that was me. i did ibook support for hundreds of systems over lots of years, so was always looking for parts/systems. the black case plastic was in one of the boxes i got in a huge trade deal. looked to me as if it had been installed, and then removed for whatever reason, and then stored. still in great shape! i had forgotten all about it until i saw this thread, crazy flash back for sure.

it's headed home, so Orange, post some pics when it gets there...;):apple:
