I know this has probably been answered, but I can't find the answer and have been searching for a while. Does anyone know what is up with the right hinge of the black macbook? its squeeks like a haunted house door! how to do I fix it? Its pretty annoying and worries me a little...

How long have you had it? My whitebook hasn't started doing it yet.

I've had a few macbooks with hinges like that, both left and right. However, my conclusion is that it's not the hinge itself but rather the plastic from the screen bezel that's rubbing against the main unit. You may want to try tightenibng or loosening the screws closest to the hinge in the back - that will move the plastic in the area and I've found that it can alleviate the squeaking. If you have an apple store nearby I'd just take it in and let them deal.

My impression is that the black one is more prone to this. Maybe the design is for the white one and then because of the layer of whatever it is they treat the shiny black plastic with to make it matte, it adds an extra mm to it?

Ah. Good point PDE, hopefully mine won't do it in that case.

I had the same problem, however I fixed it by using a cue tip dipped in a small amount of washing up liquid and then dabbing it on the hinge. The washing up liquid in its undiluted state worked as a perfect lubricant. This was a couple of months ago and I haven't heard a squeak since.
