I have the chance of getting a Black Macbook, with an Intel 2Ghz CPU, 2GB RAM and an 80GB HD. I am wondering approx, when were these Macbooks released by Apple ? I know the current base models are only available in white and start at a 2.1Ghz CPU.

Just wondering how old this macbook would be ?

Thanks
RK

Sounds like a rev A BlackBook to me. Those came out a few years ago, and it's most likely a Core Duo rather than Core2Duo.

If the power button symbol is gray instead of white, it is the first generation macbook. If the symbol is white instead of gray, it is the second generation macbook. But with the 80 GB HD, it is most likely the first generation. First generation macbooks still have a good 2 - 3 years left in them.

Go to everymac.com and click on your MB. It will tell release date and discontinue date. Plus it tells the current value.

thanks everyone for your help, it would appear that it is a Core Duo intel a couple of years old now.

The big secret

If you look at the serial # it will tell you the year and week it was made. So you'll have something like, 3f637879p4e. The 637 is the year and the week it was made. Ie, the 37th week of 2006. It's always the third, fourth and fifth # in the sequence.

That's very interesting. I had no idea. Thanks or sharing that!

Or, you could just go here and it will do it for you.

But that trick is nice if you understand it, but I get the feeling most people don't, so I just give them that link😀 :apple:
