Hello All

I guess this would go in this forum of apps. If I am wrong ,operator just repost it.

Basically, I noticed when I upgraded to the latest version of Black Magic Speed test, the my numeric results stayed the same, but the gauge needle changed. The needle used to go all the way up to the maximum red now it does not. As I mentioned my past writes/reads averaged near 490-500, and they still do but the needle doesn't jump to max anymore/ I deleted then reloaded this latest app and have nothing running but it. I wrote to the BlackMagic support and here is there response. "As for the speed test, if there are other applications being used when running this test, this could be the reason the results are different than before. That test is dependent on your system and we have no way to check why your system would be coming up with different results than what it was with the older versions".

Has anyone else experienced this?

Here is a pic of my recent test

If the numbers it reports back stayed the same, then I don't really see the problem?
If they are upgrading their app because there are faster hard drives out there and they don't just want any drive from 2015 and up to show in the red constantly, then wherever the needle is visually, it's actually about the numbers - right?

Sorry, bit confused to what the problem is? (Not trying to be mean)

Oh I am not taking your comment as a mean one. Well the only problem is the needle/gauge change and yes it could be as a result they are projecting faster drives ahead. I am wondering if anyone else experienced this with the updated 3.0 version. I did followup with support again in case it is a glitch in their software and perhaps they need to fix or not fix it. I have checked with a separate AJA System system check 2.1 and my reads/writes are about right.

Usually I have 3 apps installed to do tests on, and glance at the results to spot if there's a noticeable difference.

There always is a margin of difference between results. They all use different methods basically.

The reason I test is not to get 501 vs 500.. But to spot my 3 drives that are the same, to perform the same. If suddenly one of them drops 45% in performance it's time to worry and find out what's going on. (Or I use it to quickly check how new drives are behaving)

It's all good. Support wrote me back and the update is the change to allow for future drives .
Bravo Support.

"As formats are becoming increasingly more intensive as they become larger, the speed test app needs to accommodate for that and thus the reason why you're not seeing the needles peak out on the app. Rest assured, there isn't an issue with your drives if you're getting the same results numbers wise from the older versions to the more recent release of the app.
