I need to replace the black plastic strip in the back of my 2011 macbook pro. Is this a big job or does it just snap off? I want to swap the one from my 2010 model

Are you talking about the black piece that sits in front of the screen where it says MacBook pro?

No. When you close the lid and look in the back. That long plastic strip that runs along the width just above the airflow opening.

Canadian Eh!
I would imagine it's just adhered to the aluminum with glue or something. Might do worse damage trying to remove it yourself..

That black plastic is the hinge mechanism and it's attached to the screen. My MBP's hinge was making noises so I took it to an Apple Store. They told me that they need to replace the whole screen. The hinge is not replaceable on its own.
