Black plastic in bottom case, function?

Hey everybody,

I've been wanting to know this for quite some time now.
In the bottom case there is a layer of black plastic, opposite to where the logic board would be.
Whats its function? Anti static material of some sort?

Probably keeping the logic board separated from the metal bottom, i.e., shorting out.

allright cheers, I was thinking something along that.

If a small piece of that where to be gone, the part directly under where the fan blades are, you think that would be a problem?
