I do remember him saying that about FaceTime, but not for iMessage.
Though, that is a fair point on FaceTime: what did happen to FaceTime? Did Apple take their ball and go home? Did other companies just want to try to compete? Was Apple too strict? Or maybe he was just talking about it would be open...in the Apple World (could be used on any Apple device pretty much)
