BlackBerry Messenger User Guides Posted, iOS Launch Coming Soon?

It s a good move, for 3 years ago.

I wonder if the tech co's will join up again to buy up BB's patent portfolio and spare themselves the whole litigation process.

Hunh?

As the very first cross-platform messaging service that people actually know of and trust (whats-app does not count), this could actually have the potential to take down traditional SMS if everyone on every platform downloads it.

First cross platform? How about facebook messenger? How about Google Hangout? How about Yahoo messenger? How about Skype? They're all cross-platform messaging services. This BBM wont even cause a blip in the world of cross-platform messengers. I use iMessage for all my iphone friends (over 50% of my contacts) and use facebook chat or Google Hangouts for the others.

this is painful

just like that, the company is going down real fast.

if this is done, the effect is still either gonna be really bad or just good.

The thing is, I can't stand "online" and "last seen at..." on Whatsapp, seems to me that it's an invasion to my privacy, specially when you open WA 1 or 2 a.m. Why the hell can people know if I'm awake for simply open Whatsapp.

The worst thing is that for me there's no other alternative for now.

Just turn off the last online for you.

What I want is iMessage, but cross platform. Where app to app messages are sent via data and people without the app can send regular SMS/MMS that I can also receive in the app.

If that is BBM, then great.

You've been able to turn off the "Last seen..." timestamp long ago in WhatsApp.

Why don't you just turn it off? There's an option for that. People will not see when you were last online, but you will not see when they were last online either....... I mean, you did know the option exists, right?

Power to them, but I feel they're just dying a slow, agonizing death. The other day, they announced another couple-of-hundred lay-offs.

Is the writing on the wall, for this once dominant enterprise phone manufacturer?

I think the writing has been on the wall for BlackBerry/RIM for the past couple of years. This is part of their denial and slow death spiral.

Seems like BB is sealing its own fate. Many companies are moving away from BlackBerries and are now issuing primarily iPhones.

is it too little too late hard to say but its another choice a lot of iphone users i know only use imessage because its just like texting and its simple the down side is that it dose not always work as it should do ... Will bbm take off and release me from whatsapp doubtful

Wow, the have some heart. They should've thrown in the towel a long time ago :)

Yeah .. they did make a serious last effort push for broke! I'm not sure any other company would've gone as far when the bricks are being thrown from every last possible direction.

(seem my point below).

Technically it's no longer "RIM". Pretty soon it may be R.I.P. BlackBerry is dying. This is almost certainly too little too late :(

Still is the best - features wise of any messaging platform; can't wait for videochat+screensharing to debut late this year (if they don't keep chopping heads and burning through any of their reserve cash flow).

I wonder if iOS users will get a pin number or if it will handled with an email address.

The user guide seems to have vanished from Crackberry but when i read it yesterday Pin number was an option along with Phone No, Email ,etc

"While BlackBerry originally targeted a summer release for the app, the company has yet to narrow down its projected release timeline. With the debut of the beta earlier this month and the subsequent guide, it appears that the app is ready to launch."

Hopefully before the end of september

Good to see RIM is still trying to pull some strings.
