Hello All,

I’m new here and hope everyone is doing well!

I have a brand new BlackBook C2D and would like to have it output sound through the digital out jack. But when I connect my optical cable w/mini-jack adapter on one end from the BlackBook to my home a/v receiver (NAD T773) I get no signal. While in the systems sound manager I can see that it’s set to digital out when plugged in. If I unplug it then it will go back to internal sound and I can hear everything through the internal speakers. I have even tried going through the dvd players preferences to change the audio output to digital with no luck.

If anyone has any information that might help, it would be appreciated.

Thanks,
BushViper

this is an optical cable, right? if so, look at the end going into your receiver and see if there's a red light coming out. if not, your laptop isn't set up right. if there is, concentrate on the receiver.

Zimv20,

Yes, it is an optical cable from XtremeMac and there is a red light at the end of the cable. I'll check my a/v receiver.

Thanks for the reply,

Well I checked my a/v receivers settings and everything seems to be correct, just no sound from the BlackBook. To make sure it’s not my NAD a/v receiver, I tried hooking the BlackBook up to a different a/v receiver and no sound from that either. My xbox360, ps3, cable box, dvd player all work fine when connected via optical cable so I know my a/v receiver works. I even tried three different optical cables. I think the BlackBook isn’t sending the right signal. Is there a way to check the output signal besides the sound settings in the system preferences?
