I've been thinking about getting the Blackmagic eGPU (with RX 580 Pro.) for my Mac mini, but I've been hearing a lot of talks about MacOS Catalina not supporting the RX 580 graphics card. Does this mean the BMeGPU isn't supported either?

Has anyone been able to use the Blackmagic eGPU with Catalina?

Catalina does not play nice with external GPUs. It may or might not work reliably. Buy and use at your own risk.

Apple is looking forward to fixing eGPU issues that some users are having in next patches.

BTW Radeon RX580 works in Catalina. I upgraded my Hackintosh to Catalina, and RX580 worked just fine, without any fixes necessary.

It is eGPUs that might be problematic for some people. Not RX580.

I have a Gigabyte Aorus RX580 (8GB) in a Sonnet 350W enclosure, connected to a 2018 Mac Mini. It white screens on boot; however if I boot without the egpu and then plug it in afterward, it works like a champ. Hopefully this bug gets fixed soon. (I see others in this forum complaining of the same issue & the RX580.)

Has anything changed since the end of October regarding support for eGPUs in Catalina?
Anyone have a success story and want to share a recommendation (card and enclosure)

Ideally, It would just plug into the trash can and not require extensive setup.

Thanks for any help on this!!
