Hey, just thought to make a threat about your HDD/SSD speed.
If you don't know how to measure it, you can use an app called BlackMagic Disk Speed Test. It's free in the Mac App Store.

Anyway, I'm using a 5400rpm 320gb HDD on a 2011 13inch base MacBook Pro model and my speed is 42 mb/s write and 55 mb/s read.

Post your own speeds and computer specs!

Have you tried AJA System Test or Xbench* yet to benchmark your HDD?

42 MB/s and 55 MB/s is a bit slow, even for a 5400 RPM HDD.
My 7200 RPM HDD (Seagate Momentus 7200.4) can read and write with an average of 95 MB/s, the SSD (Vertex 3) can read with 188 MB/s and read with 232 MB/s on a Serial-ATA 3.0 Gbps interface on my 2009 MBP.
