Heres the tech specs, even talked about mac in the installation notes, says use x16 slot.
Sure, but these do live video capture (I wasn't thinking a video card as in a GPU for driving a monitor). Is there any way to capture 8k on a Mac at the moment?

So if I read that right, it's not going to happen on thunderbolt, which is what the original video was referring to in terms of "not enough bandwidth".
The guy asked about MacBooks, maybe that is what they are referring to.
From what I have heard even the highest of the high end custom PC's struggle with 8k.
Funny, my 2012 MacPro and 2012 MBP seem to be doing just fine with 8k.

The picture from Blackmagic's page confirms it
Haha, fully aware of it, but remember what happened few months ago when Blackmagic populated it's website with HP workstations and non-Apple displays? Phill and Craig announced 7,1.heh, tempting as it is, that's just a marketing shot so i wouldn't read too much significance into it
Original poster, this is the guy to talk to. I am really glad to find out I have heard wrong.

Could you offer some insight to your workflow with 8k. I personally would be interested to hear about it and I am sure others would as well.
I have a maxed out 2012 tower. I've been on 6k Dragon for a while and editing and grading was fine on it. Working in Premiere I'd be editing at 1/2 res or 1/4 res no problem with a 980ti and fast Raid. I was worried that when I upgraded to 8k Weapon I would need a new system, I honestly see very little if any impact after switching. The compression on the 8k as improved so much that it works the same way my 6k did. Even the file sizes are similar. Premiere and Resolve handle things well, granted my fans are always running at full tilt lol. After Effects can get a little bogged down, but it's not optimized for GPU use so that's a lot of work for the processors.
I don't really know who will be using a card like this for 8k capture into a computer. It's really only for broadcasting applications right now and there are limited cameras that can even output a 8k signal. I can't even name one off the top of my head. Probably an Ikegami or the new Sharp that was just announced. Nothing really you can buy for under 100k at least.
If anything this card is will be more used for 8k output, which is still rare since the displays are so few and expensive, but possible with a card like this. Maybe even for a quad 4k setup or multiscreen.
There's no real reason to be editing in online 8k resolution. I'm still editing my 4k in a 1080p environment, then switch to 4k for output when I need to.
I'm trying to hold out on a new system until the next MacPro drops. If need be before then, I'll just get the iMacPro in the interim.
8K SDI monitors are dropping in Q1
And what cameras will drive them?
