I just tried jailbreaking my 3g 16gig iphone running on 3.1.2 using blackra1n and got through to the restore screen on the phone but never got to see the blackra1n screen. My pc then proceeded to tell me that the phone was jailbroken and that it was waiting to reboot, which it never did. I'm running a pc thats running on XP, tried restoring to my back up and tried to jailbreak again with no luck. Anyone have any suggestions on what might be causing the problem. Each time i try to run blackra1n it's telling me that my phone was successfully jailbroken but no icon on the phone. Thanks in advance for any responses and help.

same problem

i am also having the same problem as jc. although this has been weird for me. i have been jailbreaking for bout a year now and recently i have had to restore my iphone twice because in the last 2 weeks after i started tethering it with my mac(am using a mac computer and have windows xp computer as well)it wouldnt go past the apple start up screen. after the first time no problem with black ra1n. second go around black ra1n wouldnt work. same thing as i would get the jailbroken complete but no jailbroken iphone. i tried this on my windows and it said that there was an error report every time i tried and would close out....please help..im stuck and desperate to tether my computer.. thanks a ton

what is a tethered jailbreak? and i have the 3g not the 3gs

Sorry, I was responding to the OP. I'm not sure what your problem is, but I would suggest restoring your phone in DFU mode and then jailbreaking with redsn0w.

As for what a tethered jailbreak is, you could try reading the link in my last post. ;)

ok sounds good...whats dfu mode? sorry im not good with technical terms i just know how to follow instructions haha

I'm having the same exact issue, but my i got my phone back in July. It was jailbroken for a while, i did a restore to try and fix something and now it can't seem to re-jailbreak. I'm still on 3.1.2.

edit: nvm... after almost 15 attempts, i finally got blackra1n to work. *phew*

how did you get it working? im going to try on another friends mac tonight who i recommended blackra1n to and he got his working. wish me luck. ill keep yall updated on how it goes

It took me like a dozen times but I eventually got it working. I have the 3G 16gig and I saw a post on youtube that once the phone goes to reboot, you have to hold down the home and power buttons until you see the apple reboot. While holding on to the buttons once you see the apple symbol you need to release the power button and then release the home botton once you see the blackra1n screen. Like I mentioned, I had to try numerous times and eventually it took. If anyone needs the youtube post I can try and find it again, but I think I searched using "blackra1n jailbreak issues". But once it took it was very easy!

i found the youtube video but i still cant get it to work after trying multiple times. i do the whole thing right and it gets to the connect to itunes screen and then its goes black. not turned of black but just black screen and then wont do anything unless i turn off then turn back on which then cause blackra1n to say congrats all that crap cause it thinks it rebooted it on its own when i did it...any more advice? im still gonna try again on my friends mac tonight. btw im now using my windows which wasnt even opperating blackra1n yesterday. im having the same problem with my mac and windows..could it be my phone? any thoughts or ideas?
thanks

dunnno whats up with blackra1n but i ended up jailbreaking with redsn0w got it to work first try...any idea why this happened? i loved blackra1n up until now so i dunno what was going on....

Problem Found!!!

ok so i just found out somehow or another my iphone got updated to the 3.1.3 OS?!?!?!? i have no idea because i never remember doing this but apparently it did.. how can i downgrade? i want to be able to tether my phone again cause obviously theres not a way yet. btw props to redsn0w for being able to jailbreak the 3.1.3 software..shame on blackra1n..even tho it was my fault for not knowing my OS. any help on downgrading like a good tutorial because ive tried this once or twice and didnt even get close to get it working. any help appreciated. thanks

Now you see why the last 3 posts in this thread (before this one) are all by you.

Perhaps you should not be trying this since you are apparently not even able to determine whether you have completed a 15-20 minute firmware upgrade on your phone.

like i said. i must have updated it when i had to restore the phone. are there any ways to get it to tether on the 3.1.3?
oh and to the one who said i shouldnt be doing the jailbreak ummm my bad for not knowing apple doing stuff without asking me.

They asked you. You said yes. And it is your fault.

When you click restore iTunes puts the latest firmware (3.1.3 in this case) back on your iPhone.

You have to watch the monitor and pay attention to what is going on.

Again, I don't want to be harsh, but you should not try and jailbreak by yourself as you don't seem to be able to follow along with what is happening immediately in front of you.

I dont see how so many people have issues with the absolute easiest jailbreak in the history of iPhone's....seriously.

Blackra1n is easy if it works. But it is also buggy, and does not always work. Sometimes it just refuses to run, sometimes it throws errors, but sometimes it just effs up people's phones. It's a fact, whether you've experienced it or not.

dhlizard i have been jailbreaking for a year and a half now and this is the first time i have ever had to retreat to the internet for help. the woman at the cingular store restored it for me when it first froze then wouldnt go past the apple screen so it must have happened then because it stopped working after i let them "fix" it

If you took it to the AT&T store to be restored just recently, perhaps that is how 3.1.3 firmware got on your phone.

You failed to mention you let an AT&T store "restore" it.

And very few in the jailbreak community seek help at the AT&T store
