Hi,
I recently got 16" MacBook Pro (M5 Pro). I'm running into a strange and very specific AirDrop icon bug, and I'm trying to figure out if anyone else has seen this.
The issue: When I open the Share sheet on my iPhone, iPad Pro, or iPad mini by tapping the Share button, the AirDrop target icon for my new 16" MacBook Pro (M5 Pro) shows up as a blank/empty circle (as shown on the 1st pic) instead of the MacBook icon. However, if I tap into the actual AirDrop screen, the icon for the same MacBook displays correctly there (as shown on the 2nd pic).
The weird part: I also have a 14" MacBook Pro (M4 Pro) on the same Apple ID, and that one always displays its icon correctly in the Share sheet, on all three of my iOS/iPadOS devices. So it's specific to the 16" M5 Pro machine.
AirDrop itself works perfectly on both Macs — files transfer fine both ways. This is purely a cosmetic icon issue, but it's bugging me enough that I want to get to the bottom of it.
What I've already tried (none of it fixed it):
- Rebooting all devices
- Toggling AirDrop, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth off/on
- Changing the MacBook's device name
- Erasing and reinstalling macOS on the 16" MacBook entirely (clean install, no restore from backup)
- Resetting Network Settings on iOS
- Checking the device list under Apple ID settings — the icon shows up correctly there
- Recreating my Contacts "My Card" (export, delete, reimport, reassign)
Has anyone else run into this specifically with a newer Mac model (M5 Pro or otherwise) showing blank in the Share sheet?
