Is there any way to speed this thing up? It is painfully slow, I'm sitting around 800 KB/s and its going to take at least 3 more hours and im 33% done. Right now im on Win7 but on OS X i was getting around 1GB/s+.

Assuming you're not trying to play while it is downloading, try these...

From a support article:
Toggle the Don't throttle background download option in the Downloader.
In the Blizzard Downloader window; click on View then Preferences, check the Don't throttle background download option. Please note that this will decrease system performance but should greatly increase your download speeds.

Try checking/unchecking the Enable Peer-to-Peer Transfer option and see if that helps. It is recommended that you enable peer-to-peer for the most optimal download speeds. In some cases, disabling peer-to-peer has actually increased the download rate for players.

Be patient.

The downloader is just plain slow. Maybe Blizz will update their Commodore 64 to a thrift-store 486 one of these days, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

The competitors aren't much better. It took me 9 hours to install DDO on a PC. It took 14 hours to install LOTRO. Guild Wars has an incremental-installation feature which gets you playing quickly.

Yeah I used to play GW and I liked the background download feature. Thanks for the tips but its just slow as hell anyway
