I would probably call it "annoying twits".

Anyway, I'm pretty sure the blocking has to be done at the carrier level.

For AT&T, yes. Or jailbroken can.
But since I'm neither jailbroken nor am I willing to just give AT&T more money I merely use the silent treatment. :D

What happens if you are jailbroken and using the blacklist app and someone blocked calls?

I would imagine it just rings normally for them and goes to voicemail but doesn't do anything on your phone.

The reason this might not be a feature is because it's more of a function of the carrier to actually stop the call. Maybe things the phone just can't do.

Something built in that just doesn't display the number or ring still leaves you with a voicemail from a fat crazy chick.

I use GV for this.

Why are you guys only discussing workarounds instead of ALSO discussing the fact that Apple should have included call blocking as a standard feature since iOS 1.0?
Because the former is productive. The latter is not.

There's an endless list of features that people think "should have been included" no matter what device you're talking about. Development resources are never infinite and there will always be something left out that someone thinks should have been included. It's a pointless argument.

It's hardly pointless. Some things are absolutely needed and some should not no matter what anybody says. Call blocking is a pretty basic feature for any phone, yet companies like Apple don't include it.

This will be great. My call block is nearly full with these unending international callers. I have switched them to the "swoosh" tone but that gets annoying. However, my phone would still vibrate. Anyway to isolate that just for that? Or would I have stop the vibrate for all calls?

To stop the vibrate, with iOS 5, do this.
Open up the contact, then click on EDIT.
Set the ringtone to Silent.
Right below the Ringtone should be the Vibrate field. Set that to None.

Done.

I used to have a Sony ericsson satio before my iPhone. That had an app to hide calls. It basically rang for the person making the call but on your phone would do absolutely nothing. Not ring and not show the call. Was brilliant
