Anyone else block animated avatar's?

Really narks me off, so i started blocking them a few months ago - now a good half of responses by people are "naked"!!

well a way around 'blocking' them would be to just stop them from animating.
i know in Camino you can have them only animate once, which is typically better than repeating over and over again.

me? i love most of 'em.

If a particular avatar is very annoying, let us know. We like to leave people free to pick any avatar they like, within reason, but now and then we've asked someone to change an avatar that's clearly too distracting.

BlueVelvet's last one was pretty distracting, but for all the right reasons. ;)

Eh? I've had the same one for almost three years, almost unchanging... this isn't the first time there's been some confusion so...

Public service announcement:

Blue Velvet and iBlue are two different people, with two different avatars. Capice?

;)

I just use image blocking software to block a few. Although usually the ones I block aren't necessarily animated... they're just ones that could irritate crazy people at work. I blocked a few of iBlue's and I think rdowns' (some animated, some not) for example. They don't irritate me in particular but they're ones that are "more likely" to get me in trouble.

I don't block any at home.

imho, i think MR's avatar and signature policy is already quite fair, if not stricter than some other forums.

Where is the option for blocking animated avatars? I didn't see it yet.

it's a browser-specific feature. i.e. - firefox allows you to block images and most flash with the adblockplus extension.

I knew when I posted it that it sounded funny.....

My bad. I really did mean iBlue.

Sorry.

And who can forget freeny's, extremely distracting avatar (for all the right reasons), that has probably been saved by a few MR users. <wink>

Yeah the best way to block Avatars is to use Pithhelmet in Safari or Adblock Plus in FF

But you will find that single blocked avatars keep coming back. To remove a particular users av you need to replace the bits between the two "=" signs, with a "*" (without the quotes) as per the image below.

Why are you keeping the dateline and not the u(ser number)...?

I would use something like

HTML:
https://forums.macrumors.com/image.php?*u=30694&*

where the first '*' takes out the session (if any) and the second '*' takes out the dateline, leaving the user number of the 'tar you want to block...

I thought iBlue's avatar was ****......... oh hang on :p

To be fair I've never seen an animated avatar, so I guess PithHelmet's doing its job.

This thread is an in-joke, right? I mean, all the **** life throws at you, and some joker gets offended at little moving pictures on his computer screen?

oooh, someone is a bit touchy eh?

I like to think of a web page as if it was a page from a newspaper or magazine which i can read at my leisure, having umpteen annoying little animated logo's and flash anims (blocked Flash as well - except for youtube anyway) distracting me.

But, as with most things in life - each to there own.

As long as SilentPanda keeps his avatar the way it is :) I don't care whether or not any others are animated. As long as they don't involve rapidly spinning heads.

I was last night but I'm better this morning. :)

Gotta say I love the rolling panda avatar.

PS Just saw 'Edited for language'. Sorry, I could have sworn I put asterisks in. But how come the word 'bollocks' is freely acceptable in numerous posts but not s**t?
