blocking kon-boot

I used Kon-boot recently on a windows 8 laptop and was disturbed by how well it worked. Then I found out there was a mac version.

How could i prevent this rootkit from working on my macbook? Lock the firmware? Encrypt the drive?

If they can get admin access, software like undercover are worthless.

System Requirements: Apple Mac hardware with Intel 64-bit compatible processor, 64-bit kernel (now Apple standard), USB thumb drive and free USB slot or recordable CD disk and CD/DVD drive, no activated FileVault or other disk encryption

So, turn on FileVault, and enable a firmware password.
