I paid more than 2,300 pounds for a loaded M1 MBP for my daughter who relies on her laptop for work and since day one it will not connect to the Internet. Unfortunately we are not on the best terms right now so I have not been able to get my hands on it myself to take a look.

She went to the Genius Bar today and they could not get it to connect either and what did they suggest? Go away and do a time machine restore yourself. More than 2,300 quid and that is the best they could offer? I told my daughter I would not have left the store without a fix or a firm commitment to a replacement.

I am an Apple convert from 2014 and have multiple Apple products and love them. Rarely ever buy new but in this instance treated my daughter and expected it to be the best thing since sliced bread.

So now my daughter is still using her 2013 MBP for work and has a very expensive M1 brick.

I feel your pain. That happened to us last year getting my wife a new MBP. It kept crashing, so she called support and they walked her through a restore. Unfortunately, it crashed again after that, so I called and got a replacement unit. I had to buy a new one until the old one was received, but she needed the computer for work.

This one has been perfect.

Yea I feel a replacement new MBP is on the cards if my daughter can be more assertive. I just want to get to an Apple store and deal with it myself but that is not an option right now sadly.

well, i think this is too general problem description "cant connect to internet" ... what router do you use?
for example: i have changed isp and was not able to connect my mbp like 8hours...i am using apple airport extreme and i just switch the ipv6 to ipv4 in the router and it was working again....

She should try power-cycling the router. I have experienced a new device would not connect until I did. It's a long shot, but in general she should try to isolate the problem. E.g. Can it connect using her phone as wifi-hotspot.
and for good measure Apple's troubleshooting guide:

Does this loaded M1 laptop have AppleCare? If your daughter had an appointment and all genius could recommend is restore from a time machine, is this a situation of where she never backed up the laptop and was concerned about what on the Laptops SSD? The store likely has their own guest WiFI, so that didn't work? You should be able to call Apple support in the UK and describe the situation to get advice.

Can you please elaborate more? It does not connect to WiFi at all or is it just an issue with her local network? What did the hardware test say?

Edit: if the laptop is not able to connect to internet in the shop, then it's likely a hardware failure, and it would have been replaced. If instead it works in the shop but does not work at he user's home, it's an issue with the home network setup and Apple is not responsible for fixing this. Some older router for example have security gaps and won't work with Apple devices.

If its in the 14 day return window Apple should just swap it out no questions asked.

If it isn’t then why have you waited 14 days with a bricked laptop?
