Bloomberg: iPhone Reverse Charging for Apple Watch and AirPods 'Unlikely in the Near Future'

Recently I had a marathon day of online meetings and come the afternoon my Airpod Pro batteries were flat. They are a year old now which means they have degraded massively. Annoyingly, I had forgotten to charge the case, so it was also flat.

Where I was I only had my iPhone and Samsung S10 with me. The Samsung came to the rescue and charged my Airpods case. It amused and slightly annoyed me that my iPhone meanwhile, a device that cost more than twice as much, was of no help whatsoever.

Like so many things, it is a function people call pointless right up until the time they need it. I think it is very handy.

I can understand apple’s reluctance. Wireless charging is inherently inefficient, and why waste battery power in reverse wireless charging?

A better solution, from my arm chair engineer viewpoint is reverse lightning port charging, similar to the ingenious Apple Pencil charging solution.

It's a good thing that engineers work at Apple, and not market shouters who want to override the laws of nature and live out kids fantasies of "cool features".

Your opinion. And apple is enhancing magsafe.
Nah, it's the writing on the wall. Apple is also unlikely to abandon a new "feature" after a single release, no matter how sh!tty it is. I can see this new "MagSafe" going the way of Butterfly keyboard and Touchbar.
