The mac has been a disaster under him. Only this year it may see some recovery. He thinks an ipad is a computer, maybe it will be one day, but definitely not now. The iosification of mac has happened under him. If he can claim success he must also own up to the failures of the mac. The buck stops with him.

He’s not the only one knowing that Apple Watch, iPad and iPhone as well as the Mac ARE in fact computers.

But I agree, there were silly decisions made that held the Mac back in parts.

Massive scale, market power, and cash reserves make it easy to beat smaller companies.

Near monopoly power works regardless of the CEO or product.

Yup and in order to get to the top you need to convince customers, time and time again, that your product is great. I guess that has happened.

Looks like many people feel the same or how do you explain all that record sales from Apple oder the years?
I explain part of it using the same reason that many apply as to why certain controversial politicians make their way into an Oval Office, or why someone might jump off the ledge of a burning building instead of die by flames: because the alternative (Microsoft and Android in this case) is considered to be much worse, and there is no workable Option C. :)

There's an old adage, that it all looks the same on the sports card. Frankly, my Apple stock doesn't care if the sentiment of consumers is they buy Apple products because they are the best of the best of the best of the worst.

Personally, I like my Apple products, they aren't perfect, but they all work very well together, are well made, last long, get frequent updates. (my 5S just got an ios 12 update).

Those who don't like Apple products for what they are, or the way the company is managed, etc, there are plenty of alternatives.

No, one more (or 10th) time again, unfortunately there are not plenty of good alternatives. Not a single one. There’s one desktop/laptop alternative and essentially one touch-screen mobile phone alternative, neither are better to many than those from Apple, even with Apple’s minimalist warts and all. :)

So Apple is the best of the best, not the best of the worst as you claim. Understood.

Understood...incorrectly.

Since you’re trying:

Before around 2013, Apple was the best of the bunch. The leader with super-intuitive devices that were also pretty as a bonus. Apple was the undisputed best/only option around. Windows who? Android who?

But starting around 2013 when more and more hardware/software decisions in Apple Land seemed to be based more on marketable appearances and fashion than robust function, many of Apple's offerings suddenly starting getting judged as being at least still a better choice than the Windows/Android option.

Two wildly different scenarios. On the plus side, at least my discretionary spending on Apple products decreased and I kept more money in my pocket. And I gained more free time as I stopped seeking opportunities to playfully window shop as often as I could at the nearby Apple Store.

Understood...correctly, based on your post.

Apple is still the best of the bunch. I like IOS 4 but I went to an Apple class. Why? It was very good, but not super-intuitive. Years later, Apple crammed more into IOS than Jobs could have dreamed of. And today, there is some learning just like there was in 2011.

As far your "Apple spending habits", they are your personal habits. Over time our family bought more and more Apple products.

As always ones mileage will vary, opinions are different and that's what makes the world go around. Apple's success in my opinion is they are producing products people want, to the masses. People are not buying Apple products because they are settling for something. (glass half-empty or half-full)
