Just an FYI, sure most realize this but, when you buy a BD that offers both a digital copy and ultraviolet, you don't have to choose, you get both with the same code. It has worked every time for me, I've gotten botht the DC and the ultraviolet version using the same code for Prometheus, ET, Hunger Gamse and Adventures of Tintin. Of course I always use it in iTunes first just in case but so far they've all worked for both. In fact, the insert in Prometheus even says you get both.

This isn't necessarily true. Even if the digital copy is "on" a disc, it's still recorded in your account as a movie you now own. This means it's in iCloud for play on your Apple TV or to redownload. I've found that sometimes when you delete and redownload the movie, it will then pull the Extras as well. I've never had this work for an HD upgrade, but I've done this with all my disc based DC and only one or two didn't download Extras. I've also found that on a couple discs, the file isn't even on the disc and it's just a way to verify that you have the code and physical copy.

Basically, make sure it's in your Purchased section in iTunes, then move the file out of iTunes or delete it and redownload to give it a shot.

Great!!!
Spent all day yesterday working on this. Unfortunately, I didn't check my "Purchased Movie" section in iTunes first and just started deleting. As I was re-downloading, I noticed I was missing about 10 movies. Doh! So I had to reinstall them from the discs, then delete, then re-download from the purchased list. All but one (Kung Fu Panda 2) showed up in my Purchased list.

Almost every DC re-downloaded (I have just over 30 DCs in my iTunes) with iTunes Extras. I was very surprised that Captain America and Transformers: Dark of the Moon did not have Extras.

Still...thanks!

I started a spreadsheet of digital copies so we can all find the resolutions of copies included with bluray purchases. I started with a couple from this thread and my own collection.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AhvHZp29ZPvidEdqUlJLc3FXa3U3dFlEV3dBZFhTSmc

Would it be worth it to add a column for "re-dowloads" from the purchased list? Say, if it adds Extras or HD if you delete and then re-download it.

it is my understanding that with certain movies you have to redeem the UV code first then iTunes - sometimes if you do iTunes first it will void the UV...with ET this is not the case as it clearly states digital copy + UV but there are movies that will void UV...I don't use UV but for those that use both, check to see what movie states on package or check over at the blu ray forum website.....

The Matrix

I have The Matrix (10th Anniversary Edition) on Bluray and it came with a digital download for iTunes, but it downloaded the SD version. At the time, I think that was the only version available for download. So, I decided to delete my version and redownload. It is downloading the SD version again, even though I have 1080p set for preferred. I have an ATV3. Hmmmm.

Guess it doesn't always work.

I just looked at the bottom of the code offer, and it states it is for the SD version only, and special features are not included. I probably bought the disk a couple years ago.

This is only for a small number of some newer titles.

If you have redeemed or purchased a title in SD previously its still in SD on your account.

No movies allow you to redownload a higher resolution version than you originally downloaded. That was never stated, and I doubt the studios will ever allow that. The redownload conversation so far has been about getting Extras you didn't get the first time, and that on-disc Digital Copies should be added to your iTunes movies in iCloud for watching/downloading in the future.

What would be nice is if there was an option to upgrade SD to HD for $5 or so, similar to the way you could upgrade your old DRM-laden, low-quality purchased iTunes music to DRM-free, high-quality iTunes plus for $.30 a track (this is now "free" with iTunes Match).

Kung Fu Panda 2 isn't available on iTunes, and I don't think it ever has been. This is probably why it's not showing up for you, because it didn't make the link with an iTunes catalog title when you did it. I also think that if it ever does make a link to iTunes/iCloud (i.e. you can see it in your purchased list), it will never go away. I have a digital copy of Tree of Life from its Blu-ray (wish that was an HD copy!) and when I redeemed it, it was in the iTunes store, and from then on, it's been in my purchased movies in the cloud. However, there was probably a 6 month period where it was pulled from iTunes, but it remained available for me to watch on Apple TV or redownload in iTunes. I found this out because a friend asked about it and I told him he could rent/buy it from iTunes, but then we discovered it wasn't there.

Anyway, I think the key is if it's in the iTunes store when you get your copy, you'll always have it, even if it leaves the store. If it's never been in the store, it's probably an on-disc copy, and you'll have to wait for it to come onto the store or save the disc as backup.

As for the spreadsheet, I think that's not a bad idea, although no redownload I've seen will upgrade an SD copy to HD and I doubt that will happen in the near future. I think an Extras on redownload column would be good.

I bought the Blu-ray and it came with a SD iTunes digital copy. However, it doesn't appear in my Movies -> Purchased list, or in a search of the iTunes Store; I guess they never got the iCloud thing sorted out. Bummer.

that is a bummer - I think this happened with the dreamworks movie puss in boots too - can anyone who either bought puss in boots from iTunes or used digital copy code confirm?

did you try and delete movie and re-download it with your code?

wonder if we should add a list at bottom of doc for movies that don't show up in the cloud so we know to keep it on computer and use airplay or shared library if you have Apple TV...

True Blood

I just purchased all seasons of True Blood, the revised Blu-Rays with DVD and Digital Copy and was expecting them to download in iTunes as HD, as some people have been saying and so far Season 1 did NOT download in HD, only SD.

Can someone tell me which seasons they have downloaded that have been HD so I can return the ones that are downloading in SD, please!

Thanks,

GadgetMan

You'd have thought they'd both come with the 3D one too, eh?

Well, I'll send an email to Fox and see what they have to say about it.

There are no 3D movies on iTunes yet. I'm not sure what the hold up is there, but it hasn't happened yet.

On the other hand, it should be completely standard that every Blu-ray should come with an HD digital copy. An annoying trend that's happened to a few recent high-profile releases, is when only the super-extra-special, 12 disc edition has the digital copy (see Avengers and Blade Runner). It sucks that the studios are trying to keep movie prices creeping back up to the $50 VHS days. "You can own 4 versions of the same movie so it should be way more expensive", is a crappy marketing strategy, especially when they're basically holding 2 of the versions you want hostage.

Re fox

Just to let anyone interested know, I was having the same issue with a Prometheus Blu Ray ie only downloading an SD copy in iTunes... after contacting Fox customer support they have furnished me with a replacement code for a HD copy. So email them...
