Im sure its been mentioned before but I think it would be beneficial if there was a list of people created within the message app of all of my contacts that have an iPhone & use iMessage / updated to IOS 5 so I know who has iMessage and then text often and for free.

The only way ive achieved it so far, is to create a new text / iMessage, then type in 'a' to the To: section and then appears a blue iMessage logo next to the names of people with it, and that also have an 'a' in their name.

This is such a long work around though as you'd have to try all different letters to show up the different names in ur contacts.

Edit: Using that method doesnt even show all of the contacts that do have iMessage, as a friend who I know for sure does have it, doesnt have an iMessage logo next to their name....

Anyone have any other thoughts or work arounds for this to be achieved?

I guess I don't understand but does it matter if they have a blue logo or not? If you need to contact them, you will contact them no matter what. Or does iMessage decide whether you contact people or not?

The device checks the server if the recipient is ready for iMessage when you open up the message because sometimes the devices aren't available. They can be turned off, have no data service, in airplane mode, etc. If a master list were to be had that actively scanned every single contact in real time that would be a drain on the battery and consume data.

Some people don't have texting plans.

Some people have a non-iPhone cell phone but use another iDevice that can receive iMessages.
