I personally have no problems reading them but I have to agree with some forum users here, I don't think it is the ideal choice of text colors.

Problem is ideal is very subjective. If they choose to darken the text that will make some happy so they might but its unlikely as the majority dont mind.

It was grey on grey before.

Old Colors
200-200-200 Text
133-133-133 Icon (average - gradiented)
23-23-23 to 69-69-69 Background (gradient)
(4 pixels - 2 major and 2 feathered)

New Colors
146-146-146 Icon
200-200-200 Background
(2-3 pixels - 1 major and 2 feathered)

So, it used to be that the text was 869% of the background brightness (where the text is), now it is 136%. It's also half the thickness as before.

Another way to look at it is the old used 69% of the range (0-255), whereas the new uses only 21%, at half thickness.

Even if you like it, squint at all and you can clearly make out the old one whereas the new one becomes blurred easily (or in low light where the overall brightness washes it out). It's quite clear that style was chosen over function here.

Yes there is something wrong with your phone it isnt normal. I would try a restore, youve a data connection so functioning visual voicemail shouldnt be an issue, also the alignment is very much off.

As I suspected, this seems to be an O2 overlay. I'm now in a different area and I switched to Airplane Mode, so VM is still not available, but only through my own choice
The result is below.
