Bluesky has released an update that makes it possible for users to post longer videos to the social media platform and X (Twitter) rival. Version 1.99 of the app triples the maximum video length from 60 seconds to three minutes, addressing one of users' most frequent requests.

As shared in a Bluesky post, the platform has also introduced a new DM filtering system that helps manage messages from unfamiliar accounts. The "Chat Requests" feature creates a separate inbox for communications from users you don't follow, allowing you to approve or reject conversations before they appear in your main inbox.

Account muting has been simplified, too. Users can now mute directly from a post by accessing the three-dot menu, rather than needing to visit the user's profile first. Other improvements include enhanced reporting tools for content moderation and an optimized web layout for tablet users.

Currently, Bluesky reports over 32 million active users. While still trailing Meta's Threads in total users, the platform continues to gain popularity as an alternative to X. The update is available now on the App Store [Direct Link] for iPhone users running iOS 15.1 or later.

I find that most people on Bluesky spend all their time there telling each other how much better it is than Twitter, even though they all know they're lying to each other. They just hate Elon Musk for some reason they can't articulate.

You... don't believe there are things to massively dislike about Elon Musk?

Boring platform. Zero news, zero memes, half of the content is just people whining about X/Musk all the time.

Zero news and zero memes is the social media I'm looking for! ..no politics, too, please.

I don't use BlueSky, and have never used Twitter pre or post Elon, but I can perfectly articulate my dislike for Elon if you'd like, point-by-point...and it started years before this recent nonsense.

I find social media boring, full stop
Years ago in the days of MySpace, it used to be so much better and more interesting, but even on Facebook it is all the same thing these days, I have taken it off my phone, only have the messaging part on now. I just have a peek now and again online on the computer.
Before the net, we used to have BBS and Fidonet, far better those days.

Twitter I used for a week, many years ago, that was enough, and now I would not touch it with a bargepole.
It is okay having all these social media services, but there can be something as too many.
the only one I am a member of is Facebook and as I said, I have taken that off my phone.

I do use Discord, but that is not really a social media service as such.

I did think about Blue sky, but looking at the site and some of the posts on there, it don't look any different from Facebook and I doubt X/Twitter, what ever it is called these days is any better.
