iPhone 16 Pro Max Bluetooth 5.3 with 5ghz support?

Hi all,

I notice in the spec’s of the 16 pro max it states it has ‘Bluetooth 5.3 with 5ghz support”… does anyone know what that really means?

When I go to the compare iPhone page it shows up. Check out the attached screenshot showing the 16 pro max on the left.

The AirPods Pro 2 and Apple Vision Pro have this too, it's how apple do Lossless audio over bluetooth, it's good to see apple bring this to the iPhone also.

Although it doesn't show on the full spec sheet of the 16 Pro, so maybe we're not supposed to know about this yet and it's enabled in a future software update.

It is quite interesting but I’m somewhat skeptical because 5GHz on AirPods would mean a highly reduced range—which is not a problem on the Vision Pro due to it being strapped to the head.

I only found ranges from 2.402 GHz to 2.480 GHz in Bluetooth and Bluetooth LE specifications until version 6.

Does the 5 GHz mabye have something to do with this special W-chip?

Edit: it's not in phones, but also works together with Wi-Fi what could have 5 GHz.

What about this U-Chip, appeared first in iPhone 14 series? I there a U3 in the new iPhones, what is missing in this article?

Is it also listed for iPhone 15 there? Because of the U chip what started there being in phones with U2. I think the Wiki article in my post above is not up to date.

There was already the U1 in iPhone 14. I over-read it somehow.

I just visited the link and changed the 16 pro max to the 15 pro max, and the answer is no; it is not listed there also.

Yeh I was also wondering if this is one of the reasons apple haven't launched this feature on the iPhones yet. Might need some improvements to deal with transition down to 2.4GHz, or improved error handling on 5GHz.
