    HI,

I can connect my Sony bluetooth headphones to my Imac ok, but randomly from 2-5 minutes they cut out-yet in bluetooth preferences they still show as being connected. I've removed and paired several times with the same result. Any help would be appreciated. I'm running El Capitan, but had the problem with Yosemite as well. Headphones work perfectly with my Iphone.

Is your iMac connected to the Internet via wifi? Have you tried with wifi turned off?

Another solution would be to get an external Bluetooth adapter with a little cable. That way you can position it so its antenna can see the headphone radio in a straight line.

You mean with an Ethernet cable? Have you explicitly turned wifi off?
