Bluetooth Identity Crisis

My iMac G5, which has happily connected to my Apple wireless mouse and keyboard for almost three years, is no longer recognizing these peripherals. A closer investigation reveals that the computer thinks it does not have a Bluetooth module; the icon for it in System Preferences has disappeared, and the System Profile now turns up "No information found." I'm pretty sure nobody took out my Bluetooth module while I wasn't looking.

Any ideas?

Would you be confident taking the machine apart and resetting the SMU? If not, then try resetting the PRAM as a start...
