Bluetooth input is great through a keyboard, however, what good is input without output?

How about a bluetooth printer? How great would it be to print documents and photos from your phone?

Obviously, the added stereo sound output by way of headsets and speakers and car stereo would be incredible.

some printing available now

There's an HP iphone/ipod app for printing images. Also, you can capture your screen to an image by clicking the main button and the power button at the same time. Put the two together and you can print excerpts of documents and websites. (you need an HP wifi printer, I think.)

Palm have been offering a portable, fold-up keyboard with built-in docking station for years:

I see no reason for Bluetooth, as you're going to want to be looking at the iPhone's screen while typing. I think something like the Palm keyboard would be perfect for iPhone.

I have a very nice fold up unit like this from Palm. It would be outstanding for an iPhone. It works over the infrared communication channel.

These people are just lazy.... YES IT CAN BE DONE

Of course it can be done! The iPhone SDK has bluetooth device discovery and XCode has the frameworks necessary for bluetooth keyboards. But Apple's not going add the support... whether it opens up "Teathering" issues or because no one in their right mind would need a keyboard for an iPhone--might as well be sitting at your MacBook. But bluetooth streams both ways -- whoever thought of that excuse didn't even take the time to think of a good one. How else would headsets work?

Find the frameworks and header files you need in XCode to build support on your MacBook. Then go find the equivalant frameworks in GNUStep or get the libraries from your vender who probably supports Mac. AND THEN BUILD IT YOURSELF CUZ AIN'T NO ONE ELSE GONNA! It'd be nice to have when I'm faking work at work, but other than that I'm not going to spend the time to build something like that.

So, I'm kind of surprised I haven't seen anything about this yet.

I have an apple wireless keyboard, what's preventing it from being paired with an iPhone? (other than code not being written for it)

Does anyone know if the bluetooth on the iPhone is incompatible with this kind of pairing?

Thanks!

I want a keyboard.

I'd probably buy a few Apple BT keyboards (and adaptors to stand the phone up). One for the car and one for the house.

I carry my laptop less now that I have an iPhone, I'd carry the laptop even less if I had a keyboard.

This needs to be a full keyboard, I'm assuming at least Apple BT keyboard sized.

forget the bluetooth keyboard. Wouldnt it be cool if apple come out with another version of the iphone with a side slide out QWERTY keyboard. Maybe they could fit a mini macbook keyboard. The touch screen keyboard and no support for mobile office is the only thing I don't like about the iPhone.

Would that be a full-sized slide-out keyboard then?

Because the main benefit to Bluetooth keyboards is that you can have a full sized (yet still compact - if you've ever seen the stowaway folding keyboard you'll know what I mean) keyboard enabling you to touchtype effectively. If I'm still going to be 'thumb typing' I'll stick to just the onscreen keyboard.

By full sized I mean that the keys are full sized by the way not necessarily that it's got all the keys of a full sized board.

The only thing missing for me

I had a foldable keyboard for a Palm about 10 years ago. I used it all the time. Only problem was my Palm was not color and did not have Internet access.

A foldable keyboard would not eliminate my need for a laptop but would allow me to leave it behind much more often. I have to laugh when my 10 year old Palm could do something my new iPhone cannot. I can definitely say that if/when the competition catches up, I will definitely consider a different phone for this feature alone.

That keyboard was really cool and VERY useful !!!

I would love to see someone come out with it for the iPhone

I'm surprised there's not more demand for a folding, bluetooth keyboard for the iPhone. I'd love it, and would pay well for something that's durable and quickly paired with the phone.

( crickets? )

the Matias Bluetooth Folding Keyboard is the only one I heard was worth considering - just found out they got slammed by CNET so I think it's worth holding out...

http://reviews.cnet.com/keyboards/m...t=cnet&subj=Matias+Bluetooth+Folding+Keyboard

one must have feature is being able to pair it with both my iPhone and iPad on-demand and perhaps even more importantly, that my devices aren't waiting for my keyboard when I don't absolutely need it (which is the annoyance Im dealing with right now with my iPad - I'm always having to turn BT off to get the on-screen keyboard to show up when my keyboard is across the room which totally kills the convenience factor for me for what otherwise is a great experience with the Apple BT keyboard!)

That BT behavior does sound annoying. Gotta be somebody out there to compete in this little market...

Apple small wireless BT Keyboard works with iPhone 4

It is truly awesome not having that virtual keyboard in the way when posting to forums. This is a wonderful tool that doesn't require any hacking, drivers or any other work (other than simple pairing) to get started. It's truly amazing.

Now I need to try a BT mouse! :)

Cheers,

I'm looking to pick up a mini keyboard as lugging my mbp about all day is getting annoying. And now with Dropbox/Google Docs and Office2 I can pretty much do what I need to do whilst out and about

Have come down to three choices

The freedom above

This on ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Foldable-Mini...ing_Apple_Mac_Accessories&hash=item3cad9b7c98

Or hold on for this https://jornostore.com/

I've had a play on the freedom in a store and the keyboard size is about perfect but to call it pocketable is stretching it, has anyone tried out the ebay model or similar size (230mm or 8.5" keyboard) as both these options would be great for carrying about easily?

Ok, I bought the Freedom model; First thoughts are its spacing for the letters is perfect, though the lower function keys are a bit small and the space and shift key (on the right hand side) could do with some improvement.

One other minor gripe is the keyboard is perfectly flat and due to its small size I can see being painful to use after a long period, so I'll probably mod the base, also the stand whilst being a good design idea (slots into the keyboard) seems very flimsy and is only held up with a thin piece of metal - not something I'd want to stick an ipad on

I've added pics so you can get an idea of the size of it

iPhone wireless keyboard

I have a iPhone 3GS. I'm using the standard Apple wireless keyboard with the DocstoGo app and loving it. I'm able to copy/paste, select text by double tapping, open Word files, etc.
