    I only use my bluetooth headset a few minutes a day, but given how much battery drain keeping bluetooth enabled on the phone uses, I'd LOVE it if someone created an app that did one simple thing... TURN BLUETOOTH OFF AN ON without having to scroll down, around and in menus. An icon that reflects the status of bluetooth being on or off would be nice too, but definitely optional. I never remember to turn off bluetooth on the phone when I'm not using it so my battery drains even quicker than normal (usually, because the headset is in the car somewhere, and turned off). And when I really need to use it and I've managed to turn bluetooth off, I always forget until after I've dialed a number, at which point I'm fumbling around (at 60mph in the car), trying to enable it before the person on the other end picks up.

    So.. any industrious iPhone coders out there want to take this one on? I'm sure I can't be the only one out there struggling with maximizing battery life and the need for a headset. Heck, I'd even pay for it.

    The SDK does not allow an app to change any of the settings for the phone at the moment. So this is impossible.

    I highly doubt that anyone can make an app for this...I wish it can happen though!

    Jailbroke phones still have this option :D
    Can't speak for the 2.x folks but 1.1.4 boss prefs has;
    WiFi
    BlueTooth
    Edge

    all on 1 app 1 click.

    Yup. It'd be nice to have this for wifi too, or a direct link to the EQ settings, but it can't be done under the SDK.

    I only got my iPhone 3G last week and didn't realize you couldn't turnoff Bluetooth until I read your post. There was and ON/OFF for Bluetooth on my Palm Treo 700p that I had before my iPhone 3G. That is strange that there isn't an option for it.

    You can turn it off. Mine is turned off right now. But there is not a simple, one button way to do it. You have to go into the Settings app, then into General, then hit Bluetooth and then you get the On/Off switch...
